Rome, of course…
                   where else?
Why is Rome called “The Eternal City?

• Well, Rome was known as the Eternal City even among the ancient Romans themselves.

• It was so called because the Roman people thought that no matter what happened to
the world, no matter how many other empires might rise and fall, Rome would go on
forever.

• And here we are…
Everything in Rome is….

Simply HUGE!!!
• Just walking through its streets you can enjoy such wonderful buildings… The Coliseum, The
Forum… You just turn a corner and such a huge building as “The Agripa Pantheon”… or Fontana di
Trevi…appears in front of you

• You will love everything in Rome, every square, every building, every step, its ice creams, having
a nice glass of wine on its terraces…

• You must visit this city during the day and at night, because… it’s so different!!!
If you’ve been there, you know what I’m talking about. If not…

                                                                                        DON’T MISS IT!
 As you can imagine, we didn’t go to
    Rome on holidays ;)

 I’ve to say we followed a quite strict
program!!! In fact, we couldn’t be
    tourist until Saturday afternoon!!!

 The aim of the project was, and it is, as
the project is still alive :
How to catch students using Social
    Media as a tool

 This project is about getting to know
the possibilities of social media as a
    tool for marketing language learning
    and implementing the best working
media in the organizations of the
    participants.

 Between other things, They have been
working on the design for a poster and
    bookmark to promote the Project.
Times are changing…

• Social media with its many forms, internet
forums, weblogs, social blogs, micro
blogging, wikis, podcasts, Facebook, Twitter, linke
din… have turbocharged the ways we
communicate….

• And the idea is to incorporate all this new
technological world to the way the participants
can attract adult students.

• The focus had to be put on the marketing
aspect, not on the use of social media for
language learning as such.
About the participants….

• The participants had very different
skills, as some of them belonged to state
schools, some to private schools and
even one of the participants was a
marketing company.

• So it wasn’t easy to work on a common
Project as the strategies for every
company may not be the same…
• It was a great experience, as I am involved with social media, it’s a theme that I love, so, for
me the meetings weren’t boring at all. And there, sat down with the rest of the people, I had
the opportunity to express my opinion and participate with the rest of the bunch.
• Talking about myself, I felt nearly…
…well, not nearly, just a bit, as Richard Gere did when he
was interviewed on a tv program.

• The interviewer told him that he was very, very lucky, as
throughout his career he had to film many scenes sleeping
and making love to such a nice actresses as Julia
Roberts, Kim Bassinger…

• His answer, with a wicked smile on his face, was:

           “ It’s just work, HARD WORK!! ;) “

• My own small personal project was to meet people and
practice English, and… I did.
• One of the best parts of a Project like this is that it brings you the opportunity to meet new people
from different countries, cultures. Different ways of behaving, different points of view and this is
always so enriching!

• It’s easy to begin a new friendship and even more if we are promoting the use of social media. This
way, it’s easy to keep in contact with everybody.

• Not everything in the Project was meeting, meeting and meeting. The members from Studio Italia
gave us a very warm welcoming, first at their school where we met….
… and then with a ‘never-ending dinner’ that gave us the opportunity to learn about the
human side of the project, and to meet the people involved in a more relaxed manner.
• We dudn’t stay in a hotel, but in houses whose landladies rented some rooms.

• So…. I was going to be hosted by a landlady… uuuuaaaauuuuu!!!!

                                                   • Wouldn’t you have felt the same?

                                                   • It’s a bit scary, isn’t it?
• Bah, nosense!!!’ , I thought. I was in Rome and I felt happy briskly walking down the street,
looking for my accommodation. I was attracted by a printed notice that said: BED AND BREAKFAST.
I moved a bit closer. I went right up and peered through the glass into the room.

• The first thing I saw was a bright fire burning into the hearth, and everything was filled with
pleasant furniture. On the carpet in front of the fire a cat was asleep.
• I don’t know how, I don’t know why, my eyes were caught and held in the most peculiar manner by
the notice that was there: BED AND BREAKFAST, BED AND BREAKFAST, BED AND BREAKFAST.

• I don’t know how, I don’t know why, but I pressed the bell, the door swung open and a woman
was standing there, as she had been waiting for me for a looooong loooooong time….

• She seemed so terribly nice, exactly like the mother of one’s best school-friend welcoming me into
the house. :D

• As you can imagine, most of what I said was just part of my imagination. In fact it was a very cozy
house, maybe a bit neglected, but so wonderful, warm and cute!!! And she, the landlady, was a
really nice woman.
• So, everything was all right… … …
• yes, all right…

•… till the last day. That last morning I was ready for having my breakfast when she came to me.

• She was having a cup of tea and offered me
another one.

• I wasn’t sure, but once again I thought:

‘NONSENSE!!!! . Oh, come on Flor, are you
getting crazy? ‘

And I accepted.

• She started sipping her tea and I did the same
staring at her when she said with her sweaty
voice:

“ – Before you go, would you be kind enough to
pop into the sitting-room and sign the book?
Everyone has to do that ;)
• Nobody cooks pizzas in the world as Italian
people do. MMmmm they are just wonderful!!

• But we soon realized that they don’t live on
just pasta and pizzas. They have good meat and
wonderful salads with fresh vegetables and a
big variety of cheese.
• I have to admit that we were really lucky at lunch or dinner time, as we had a
sixth sense person with us….

• She knew exactly where to go to have lunch or dinner.

• As we all were deciding ‘where’, maybe here, there, maybe this one… “she” was
only listening to our conversation with one ear and suddenly she said:

           - that one,

and her choice was even better than the one before. Incredible ;)

                                     • But I have to talk about our big discovery……
• ‘di carciofo’, I mean artichoke.

                                            • We had never seen that way of cooking them
before, just boiled, but they were so soft and tasty!!!

•They were in every restaurant, everywhere. Just
                                            Delicious.

• I cannot finish my ‘food part’ without mentioning what I miss the
most: Italian Cappuccino. It didn’t matter where you stopped to
have a coffee, you were able to enjoy a good cappuccino
everywhere.

• How I missed them when I got to Spain!. But I’m a very lucky girl!!!
I told my family and then…

• Magic!!! Since then, every Sunday I’m presented with one of them.

•I’m a bit spoilt at home 
• Many years ago I read one of my favorite books by Paulo Cohelo, “El Alquimista”.

• Since then I’ve been afraid of being stuck with my ‘popcorn cart’ so I decided to make the most
of any opportunity.

•So, although I know I don’t need to say it, as I’ve had the opportunity to meet you and know
that you are quite adventurous people full of a wide range of interests, I really encourage you to
participate in every chance that life brings to you.
• And I’m not just talking about European Projects offered by our dear EOI, but also
opportunities arising from your jobs, universities, families or whatever. Don’t let them pass by.

• You never know how things are going to develop, and from the smallest detail, the biggest
thing can be born. “Big oaks from little acorns grow”.

• Maybe a friendship, maybe a romance, maybe a great experience, maybe a little change, or
maybe just… enjoying life!

                                        who knows???

  • 26. • I have to admit that we were really lucky at lunch or dinner time, as we had a sixth sense person with us…. • She knew exactly where to go to have lunch or dinner. • As we all were deciding ‘where’, maybe here, there, maybe this one… “she” was only listening to our conversation with one ear and suddenly she said: - that one, and her choice was even better than the one before. Incredible ;) • But I have to talk about our big discovery……
  • 27. • ‘di carciofo’, I mean artichoke. • We had never seen that way of cooking them before, just boiled, but they were so soft and tasty!!! •They were in every restaurant, everywhere. Just Delicious. • I cannot finish my ‘food part’ without mentioning what I miss the most: Italian Cappuccino. It didn’t matter where you stopped to have a coffee, you were able to enjoy a good cappuccino everywhere. • How I missed them when I got to Spain!. But I’m a very lucky girl!!! I told my family and then… • Magic!!! Since then, every Sunday I’m presented with one of them. •I’m a bit spoilt at home 

  • 30. • And I’m not just talking about European Projects offered by our dear EOI, but also opportunities arising from your jobs, universities, families or whatever. Don’t let them pass by. • You never know how things are going to develop, and from the smallest detail, the biggest thing can be born. “Big oaks from little acorns grow”. • Maybe a friendship, maybe a romance, maybe a great experience, maybe a little change, or maybe just… enjoying life! who knows???
