Employers have unconscious biases that can influence hiring decisions based solely on a candidate's appearance within a blink of an eye. To lessen this bias, one idea is to conduct "blind interviews" where employers and candidates are in a dark room unable to see each other. This prevents first impressions from visual cues that could activate unconscious stereotypes. While bias may not be totally removed, blind interviews could help employers become more aware of their own biases and take steps to address them in the hiring process.
