Profitability determinants and the impact of global financial crisis a panel...Alexander Decker
This document summarizes a research study that examined the determinants of profitability for Islamic banks in Malaysia from 2007 to 2010 using panel data analysis. The study found that overhead expenses, loans, deposits, technical efficiency, and bank size had a positive significant effect on profitability, while inflation had a negative effect. Capital and reserves, liquidity, bank age, GDP growth, GDP per capita, and concentration ratio did not significantly impact profitability. The study also found that Islamic bank profitability was negatively affected by the 2008 global financial crisis.
Islamic art developed under the Islamic caliphates between the 7th and 15th centuries. It incorporated elements of ancient Middle Eastern traditions with influences from other regions conquered by Muslim armies. Islamic art is characterized by calligraphy, geometric and floral motifs, and avoidance of images of animate beings in accordance with Islamic traditions. Architecture featured domes, arches, and intricate decorative elements like arabesques. Gardens were also designed with religious symbolism and to provide respite from harsh climates.
Neotraditionalism in contemporary islamic artCoach Hall
Neotraditionalism in Contemporary Islamic Art refers to art that combines traditional Islamic art styles and techniques with modern content and ideas. It emerged in the mid-1990s with artists like Libyan artist Ali Omar Ermes. More recently, artists from traditionally Muslim countries like Morocco, Iran, and Pakistan have explored this trend. They expand on traditional calligraphy, miniature paintings, and other styles while examining issues like gender in Islam and personal and religious identity. Major museums have begun broadening their Islamic art exhibits to include more contemporary works in this style.
Islamic art developed between 650 CE and the present, with a focus on architecture, calligraphy, and manuscript illumination due to prohibitions on figural representation. Notable architectural works include the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem (687-691 CE), the first Islamic monument, and the Great Mosque of Cordoba (784-987 CE), featuring horseshoe arches. The Taj Mahal (1632-1653) exemplifies later Mughal architecture through its symmetrical design and use of domes, minarets, and inlaid decoration. Calligraphy and illuminated manuscripts also flourished, transmitting religious texts through intricate decorative styles that married image and text.
The document provides an overview of Islamic art from the early Umayyad period beginning in the 7th century through the Mughal period in the 17th century. It highlights important architectural works such as the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem and the Great Mosque of Damascus from the Umayyad period. Subsequent periods discussed include the Abbasids, Samanids, Umayyads in Iberia, Nasrids in Iberia, Mamluks, Ottomans, Seljuks, Safavids, and Mughals. The document includes maps, plans, and images of architectural and artistic works from these Islamic civilizations and regions.
The document provides an overview of the Renaissance period in Western Civilization, including its origins, influences, themes, and developments in art and architecture. Key influences included the rediscovery of ancient Greek and Roman knowledge brought back by Crusaders, the invention of printing, and wealthy patrons commissioning art. Notable Renaissance artists discussed include Giotto, Masaccio, Botticelli, da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Renaissance architecture featured symmetry, domes, decorated ceilings, and clear glass windows.

A selection of my work going back to 2002, I have experimented with many different ways of making art here are a few examples of the paintings and images, nearly all of these pieces sold and were exhibited somewhere or oter. Looking back is good because helps me to remember where I was and how my sensabilities have changed. I cringe when I look at most of this stuff and I cant wait to find my voice and make some good work.
