Why You Should Clean Your Bathroom
Often
By Lucia | Published: October 10, 2012

The most visited room in the
home, your bathroom will quickly become a mess if you aren’t cleaning it regularly. When you neglect the
bathroom, soap scum has time to build up, mildew starts to take hold and the entire room can start looking
a little frightening. With regular care, however, your bathroom will always be shining, sparkling and
company ready.

Don’t Give Mold a Chance

When you wait months to clean the bathroom, you might find yourself battling a thick layer of mold.
Growing in the crevices and along corners, it can take root in your caulk and become impossible to remove.
There are solutions to help you battle the mold, but you won’t have to pull out the bleach, Borax and
ammonia if you clean the bathroom regularly. Wiping off the walls with gentle detergent will prevent the
mold from taking hold, so you won’t have to spend an hour scrubbing.

Odors Make the Room Seem Dirty

While you are waiting for the right time to clean the bathroom, odors are moving in and taking over. The
lingering scent of dried urine can make even a sparkling bathroom seem filthy, and mildew in the towels
will make the bathroom smell terrible. Regular cleaning is necessary to avoid these unpleasant odors and
ensure that the bathroom looks as clean as it smells.

Clutter Makes the Bathroom Feel Claustrophobic

A collection of hair tools, makeup and shaving accessories may be necessary for the morning routine, but it
makes the bathroom feel cluttered and small. These items have a habit of multiplying when they are left
out. Find a home for everything so it will be out of sight. Take a moment every day to put your supplies
away when you are finished. It’s a daily chore that will keep your bathroom looking nice and make it easier
to clean.

Avoid Stains on Fabric

Your shower curtain, hand towels and rugs make a big difference in how the bathroom looks.
Unfortunately, they are easily stained. The shower liner can pick up rust colored stains, and the carpet
becomes dirty quickly from all the traffic. Wash these items about once a week to prevent odors from
becoming trapped in the fibers and ensure that they look clean. It only takes a few minutes to take them out
of the room and put them back in, and the bathroom will look clean and smell fresh when you’re done.

Banish Sticky Floors and Dull Surfaces

Spray-on deodorants, perfumes and hair spray have a tendency to gently drift a light residue over a large
area. Over time, it starts to build up and dull surfaces. The floors won’t shine, and they might even start
feeling sticky. Scrub the floors and wipe off surfaces at least once a week to keep ahead of the problem and
maintain shiny surfaces.

Cleaning the bathroom regularly will keep it company ready throughout the month. Waiting until you have
a free afternoon to scrub the entire room will result in more work as you scrub away stains, fight thick
layers of mold and try to remove the built-up residue from aerosol sprays. If you don’t have time to invest
in regular cleanings, then consider hiring the professionals to assist you. The team at 1st Class Cleaning
offers customized cleaning plans that will work with your needs and appointments that suit your schedule.

company ready through the busy month.

Tips to Clean Your Bathroom Under 20
Minutes
By Lucia | Published: October 8, 2012
Keeping your bathroom clean is
part of ensuring a healthy house. The bathroom is full of bacteria that can cause serious illness. Cleaning up
on a daily basis will prevent sickness and keep your bathroom inviting to guests.

The grout between tiles can become permanently stained if dirt or spills soak into the surface. Soap scum
build-up is hard to remove when it has a few weeks to stick to the wall. A few twenty minute sessions of
cleaning each week can keep your bathroom in good condition.

Focus On The Most Important Parts

The toilet is home to most of the bacteria in the bathroom, making it a prime target for regular cleaning.
Spray your favorite disinfectant in the bowl and run a toilet brush around it to kill bacteria in less than three
minutes. Wipe the counter with a disinfectant and a damp sponge to quickly catch any toothpaste or hair
products.

Rinse the shower and tub for a minute to wash away loose hair and soap suds. Spray a foaming cleaner on
any deposits of scum and let it stand while you clean the rest of the bathroom. Some products can remove
light scum build-up without any scrubbing.

Keep Cleaning Supplies Handy

It’s much easier to save time on cleaning when you don’t have to spend ten minutes just hunting down the
tools. Quick cleaning wipes can help you disinfect toilet seats and wipe down faucets very quickly. These
can be flushed or tossed out when you are done.

Keep a sponge next to your sink. A damp sponge can be used to quickly pick up any specks of toothpaste
or spilled cosmetics. Doing this every time you brush your teeth could save you an entire cleaning session
at the end of the week.

Remove Clutter

Leaving a lot of cosmetic and skin care bottles on the counter makes it hard to clean up quickly. Bits of hair
and dust gather between the jars. Try putting up any products you don’t use on a daily basis in a cabinet or
a medicine cabinet. You can choose a storage device that is attractive, helping you decorate while you
reduce clutter.

Use The Right Tools
Certain tools speed up the cleaning process. Pick up a squeegee to make cleaning a shower very easy. You
can remove water at the end of each shower to prevent mineral build-up and thick layers of soap scum that
require scrubbing.

The squeegee also works for cleaning glass and mirrors. Spray the surface down with a glass cleaning
product, then remove it in one swipe. You won’t be left with streaks or lint. A simple cotton cloth can also
be used to remove water after you clean faucets to prevent water spots.

If you don’t have twenty minutes a week to devote to cleaning, try hiring a team from
http://www.1stclasscleaningnyc.com/. A professional team will ensure there are no spots left on the mirror.
You will be left with more free time to spend with your family.

10 Ways To Remove Mold From Your
Bathtub
By Sonja | Published: August 14, 2012

Mold in the bathtub is an eyesore and can
become a safety issue. Causing respiratory problems and spreading along your tub, it’s wise to remove
mold as quickly as possible. Fortunately, removing the mold and mildew from your bathroom is actually
quite simple. Here are ten effective ways to banish the mold from your bathroom.

1. Lower Humidity Levels
Mold grows when conditions are right. Moisture and warmth create prime growing spots, but you can
eliminate the problem by ventilating the bathroom. Run the fan when you shower to remove humidity from
the room, or open the door or window for circulation.

2. Baking Soda
Mix a paste of water and baking soda. Scrub the paste into the grout and caulk and allow it to sit. Spray the
paste with water and scrub it with a stiff brush to remove the mold and leave your bathroom sparkling
clean.

3. Tea Tree Oil
Pick up a bottle of tea tree oil to remove mold. It can be expensive, but you will only need a small amount.
Combine two teaspoons of tea tree oil with two cups of water. Mix them in a spray bottle, shake it to mix
and then spray it on the mold. Do not rinse it off, but allow it to work naturally.

4. Grapefruit Seed Extract
Odorless and highly effective, you can also mix 20 drops of grapefruit seed extract with two cups of water.
Mix them in a spray bottle and spray directly on the mold. Allow it to sit and it will permanently remove
the mold.

5. White Vinegar
Spray undiluted white vinegar on the mold and allow it to sit. It will kill the mold naturally, and the smell
will start to vanish in a few hours. If necessary, run the fan to make the odor more bearable.

6. Chlorine Bleach
Known for its ability to kill mold, a 1:3 diluted ratio of chlorine bleach will kill any mold in the bathtub.
Spray it on the tile or sponge it on using rubber gloves. Allow it to soak in for a few minutes, and then
clean it away with a fresh water rinse.

7. Commercial Sprays
The shelves of your local grocery store are lined with products promising to kill mold and leave your
bathroom sparkling. The most effective ones contain bleach, and they work very well. This can be the best
choice if you want to spray it and minimize your scrubbing afterward. Be sure to use these cleaners in a
well-ventilated area.

8. Leave the Curtain Open
An ounce of prevention is always worth a pound of cure. Avoid mold to begin with by leaving the shower
curtain open for a few minutes after you exit the shower. Air can circulate through the shower stall then,
and the walls will dry before mold can start to grow.

9. Hydrogen Peroxide
Useful for cleaning cuts, it also kills mold. It is essentially bleach, so it can be used on the tiles and grout in
your bathroom to restore them to their natural color. However, it’s easier on your skin and won’t make it
difficult to breathe.

10. Replacement
If all other cleaning methods fail, then you may be facing a more involved project. Mold can seep so deeply
into grout and caulk that no amount of scrubbing will remove the black growth. Use mold-resistant caulk to
avoid replacing it again too soon, and invest in a quality sealer to prevent the spores from penetrating your
new grout.

Removing mold from the bathtub is not a difficult task if you clean it regularly. Mold that has been allowed
to sit and soak into grout or caulk can be impossible to remove. Using household cleaners, you can clear
away the mold from the bathtub and restore its beauty. Call 1st Class Cleaning today for expert cleaning
advice.

How Often Should You Clean Your
Bathroom?
By Melissa | Published: March 7, 2012
Often people wonder how often
it is really necessary to clean one’s bathroom. Remember, one key to keeping your bathroom clean and
odor free is keeping the moisture levels low. There are some easy ways to accomplish this.

Always use the fan when taking a bath or a shower, for example. Leave it running for a few minutes if the
room is still humid. Keep shower curtains spread out so that they can dry completely, and hang wet
bathmats so they can dry properly. Remember, nothing smells quite like mold.

How Often Should You Clean Your Bathroom?

Daily, squeegee or wipe down shower walls. Tidy as you go — if you leave things to pick up later, they
may never get picked up, and a cluttered bathroom doesn’t look clean. It is also harder to clean a room that
is untidy.

Once a week, or even more often if the bathtub or shower is in frequent use, the tub and the shower should
be scrubbed down with a mildly abrasive cleaner and warm water.

During your weekly cleaning is a good time to ensure that you haven’t left things out over the week. Put
things where they belong, if they aren’t there already.

Check for areas of odor, and pay those areas special attention. Refill fragrance dispensers, as necessary; this
can make a real difference in the atmosphere of your home.

Sinks should be cleaned in the same manner at least once a week. If you are careful to rinse out the sink
after each use, especially after shaving or brushing your teeth, once a week is probably adequate to keep
your sink looking clean. Ensure that you clean the sink faucets and handles, as a shiny surface can really
brighten your bathroom.

A minimum of once a week, or more often if heavily used, scrub the inside of the toilet bowl with a toilet
bowl cleaner, and wipe down all other surfaces of the toilet with an appropriate cleanser.

Also weekly, the mirrors should be cleaned with a spray cleaner and wiped to a streak-free shine. All linens
should also be laundered at this time. Also, ensure that you dust, vacuum, and mop all applicable bathroom
surfaces. Remember, this does mean all surfaces. Dust builds up slowly, even before it’s visible.
Once a month, more often if needed, scrub the grout clean, and wipe down any areas that may not be
adequately cleaned on a weekly basis. The monthly cleaning should include a real focus on detail, if you
want to keep your bathrooms looking their best.

Wipe down the insides of any shelves at this time, as well. Dust among your stored items, where needed.
Wipe down the blinds with a sponge.

This is also a good time to check the shower head for buildup. If you’ve noticed a decrease in water
pressure recently, this may be the cause.

If you fill a plastic bag with vinegar and attach it over the shower head overnight, then give it a good scrub,
that should take care of a small amount of build-up, without the need to disassemble the shower head.

The 1st Class Cleaning Guide to a Spotless Bathroom

  • 1. Why You Should Clean Your Bathroom Often By Lucia | Published: October 10, 2012 The most visited room in the home, your bathroom will quickly become a mess if you aren’t cleaning it regularly. When you neglect the bathroom, soap scum has time to build up, mildew starts to take hold and the entire room can start looking a little frightening. With regular care, however, your bathroom will always be shining, sparkling and company ready. Don’t Give Mold a Chance When you wait months to clean the bathroom, you might find yourself battling a thick layer of mold. Growing in the crevices and along corners, it can take root in your caulk and become impossible to remove. There are solutions to help you battle the mold, but you won’t have to pull out the bleach, Borax and ammonia if you clean the bathroom regularly. Wiping off the walls with gentle detergent will prevent the mold from taking hold, so you won’t have to spend an hour scrubbing. Odors Make the Room Seem Dirty While you are waiting for the right time to clean the bathroom, odors are moving in and taking over. The lingering scent of dried urine can make even a sparkling bathroom seem filthy, and mildew in the towels will make the bathroom smell terrible. Regular cleaning is necessary to avoid these unpleasant odors and ensure that the bathroom looks as clean as it smells. Clutter Makes the Bathroom Feel Claustrophobic A collection of hair tools, makeup and shaving accessories may be necessary for the morning routine, but it makes the bathroom feel cluttered and small. These items have a habit of multiplying when they are left
  • 2. out. Find a home for everything so it will be out of sight. Take a moment every day to put your supplies away when you are finished. It’s a daily chore that will keep your bathroom looking nice and make it easier to clean. Avoid Stains on Fabric Your shower curtain, hand towels and rugs make a big difference in how the bathroom looks. Unfortunately, they are easily stained. The shower liner can pick up rust colored stains, and the carpet becomes dirty quickly from all the traffic. Wash these items about once a week to prevent odors from becoming trapped in the fibers and ensure that they look clean. It only takes a few minutes to take them out of the room and put them back in, and the bathroom will look clean and smell fresh when you’re done. Banish Sticky Floors and Dull Surfaces Spray-on deodorants, perfumes and hair spray have a tendency to gently drift a light residue over a large area. Over time, it starts to build up and dull surfaces. The floors won’t shine, and they might even start feeling sticky. Scrub the floors and wipe off surfaces at least once a week to keep ahead of the problem and maintain shiny surfaces. Cleaning the bathroom regularly will keep it company ready throughout the month. Waiting until you have a free afternoon to scrub the entire room will result in more work as you scrub away stains, fight thick layers of mold and try to remove the built-up residue from aerosol sprays. If you don’t have time to invest in regular cleanings, then consider hiring the professionals to assist you. The team at 1st Class Cleaning offers customized cleaning plans that will work with your needs and appointments that suit your schedule. Tips to Clean Your Bathroom Under 20 Minutes By Lucia | Published: October 8, 2012
  • 3. Keeping your bathroom clean is part of ensuring a healthy house. The bathroom is full of bacteria that can cause serious illness. Cleaning up on a daily basis will prevent sickness and keep your bathroom inviting to guests. The grout between tiles can become permanently stained if dirt or spills soak into the surface. Soap scum build-up is hard to remove when it has a few weeks to stick to the wall. A few twenty minute sessions of cleaning each week can keep your bathroom in good condition. Focus On The Most Important Parts The toilet is home to most of the bacteria in the bathroom, making it a prime target for regular cleaning. Spray your favorite disinfectant in the bowl and run a toilet brush around it to kill bacteria in less than three minutes. Wipe the counter with a disinfectant and a damp sponge to quickly catch any toothpaste or hair products. Rinse the shower and tub for a minute to wash away loose hair and soap suds. Spray a foaming cleaner on any deposits of scum and let it stand while you clean the rest of the bathroom. Some products can remove light scum build-up without any scrubbing. Keep Cleaning Supplies Handy It’s much easier to save time on cleaning when you don’t have to spend ten minutes just hunting down the tools. Quick cleaning wipes can help you disinfect toilet seats and wipe down faucets very quickly. These can be flushed or tossed out when you are done. Keep a sponge next to your sink. A damp sponge can be used to quickly pick up any specks of toothpaste or spilled cosmetics. Doing this every time you brush your teeth could save you an entire cleaning session at the end of the week. Remove Clutter Leaving a lot of cosmetic and skin care bottles on the counter makes it hard to clean up quickly. Bits of hair and dust gather between the jars. Try putting up any products you don’t use on a daily basis in a cabinet or a medicine cabinet. You can choose a storage device that is attractive, helping you decorate while you reduce clutter. Use The Right Tools
  • 4. Certain tools speed up the cleaning process. Pick up a squeegee to make cleaning a shower very easy. You can remove water at the end of each shower to prevent mineral build-up and thick layers of soap scum that require scrubbing. The squeegee also works for cleaning glass and mirrors. Spray the surface down with a glass cleaning product, then remove it in one swipe. You won’t be left with streaks or lint. A simple cotton cloth can also be used to remove water after you clean faucets to prevent water spots. If you don’t have twenty minutes a week to devote to cleaning, try hiring a team from http://www.1stclasscleaningnyc.com/. A professional team will ensure there are no spots left on the mirror. You will be left with more free time to spend with your family.   10 Ways To Remove Mold From Your Bathtub By Sonja | Published: August 14, 2012 Mold in the bathtub is an eyesore and can become a safety issue. Causing respiratory problems and spreading along your tub, it’s wise to remove mold as quickly as possible. Fortunately, removing the mold and mildew from your bathroom is actually quite simple. Here are ten effective ways to banish the mold from your bathroom. 1. Lower Humidity Levels Mold grows when conditions are right. Moisture and warmth create prime growing spots, but you can eliminate the problem by ventilating the bathroom. Run the fan when you shower to remove humidity from the room, or open the door or window for circulation. 2. Baking Soda Mix a paste of water and baking soda. Scrub the paste into the grout and caulk and allow it to sit. Spray the paste with water and scrub it with a stiff brush to remove the mold and leave your bathroom sparkling clean. 3. Tea Tree Oil Pick up a bottle of tea tree oil to remove mold. It can be expensive, but you will only need a small amount.
  • 5. Combine two teaspoons of tea tree oil with two cups of water. Mix them in a spray bottle, shake it to mix and then spray it on the mold. Do not rinse it off, but allow it to work naturally. 4. Grapefruit Seed Extract Odorless and highly effective, you can also mix 20 drops of grapefruit seed extract with two cups of water. Mix them in a spray bottle and spray directly on the mold. Allow it to sit and it will permanently remove the mold. 5. White Vinegar Spray undiluted white vinegar on the mold and allow it to sit. It will kill the mold naturally, and the smell will start to vanish in a few hours. If necessary, run the fan to make the odor more bearable. 6. Chlorine Bleach Known for its ability to kill mold, a 1:3 diluted ratio of chlorine bleach will kill any mold in the bathtub. Spray it on the tile or sponge it on using rubber gloves. Allow it to soak in for a few minutes, and then clean it away with a fresh water rinse. 7. Commercial Sprays The shelves of your local grocery store are lined with products promising to kill mold and leave your bathroom sparkling. The most effective ones contain bleach, and they work very well. This can be the best choice if you want to spray it and minimize your scrubbing afterward. Be sure to use these cleaners in a well-ventilated area. 8. Leave the Curtain Open An ounce of prevention is always worth a pound of cure. Avoid mold to begin with by leaving the shower curtain open for a few minutes after you exit the shower. Air can circulate through the shower stall then, and the walls will dry before mold can start to grow. 9. Hydrogen Peroxide Useful for cleaning cuts, it also kills mold. It is essentially bleach, so it can be used on the tiles and grout in your bathroom to restore them to their natural color. However, it’s easier on your skin and won’t make it difficult to breathe. 10. Replacement If all other cleaning methods fail, then you may be facing a more involved project. Mold can seep so deeply into grout and caulk that no amount of scrubbing will remove the black growth. Use mold-resistant caulk to avoid replacing it again too soon, and invest in a quality sealer to prevent the spores from penetrating your new grout. Removing mold from the bathtub is not a difficult task if you clean it regularly. Mold that has been allowed to sit and soak into grout or caulk can be impossible to remove. Using household cleaners, you can clear away the mold from the bathtub and restore its beauty. Call 1st Class Cleaning today for expert cleaning advice. How Often Should You Clean Your Bathroom? By Melissa | Published: March 7, 2012
  • 6. Often people wonder how often it is really necessary to clean one’s bathroom. Remember, one key to keeping your bathroom clean and odor free is keeping the moisture levels low. There are some easy ways to accomplish this. Always use the fan when taking a bath or a shower, for example. Leave it running for a few minutes if the room is still humid. Keep shower curtains spread out so that they can dry completely, and hang wet bathmats so they can dry properly. Remember, nothing smells quite like mold. How Often Should You Clean Your Bathroom? Daily, squeegee or wipe down shower walls. Tidy as you go — if you leave things to pick up later, they may never get picked up, and a cluttered bathroom doesn’t look clean. It is also harder to clean a room that is untidy. Once a week, or even more often if the bathtub or shower is in frequent use, the tub and the shower should be scrubbed down with a mildly abrasive cleaner and warm water. During your weekly cleaning is a good time to ensure that you haven’t left things out over the week. Put things where they belong, if they aren’t there already. Check for areas of odor, and pay those areas special attention. Refill fragrance dispensers, as necessary; this can make a real difference in the atmosphere of your home. Sinks should be cleaned in the same manner at least once a week. If you are careful to rinse out the sink after each use, especially after shaving or brushing your teeth, once a week is probably adequate to keep your sink looking clean. Ensure that you clean the sink faucets and handles, as a shiny surface can really brighten your bathroom. A minimum of once a week, or more often if heavily used, scrub the inside of the toilet bowl with a toilet bowl cleaner, and wipe down all other surfaces of the toilet with an appropriate cleanser. Also weekly, the mirrors should be cleaned with a spray cleaner and wiped to a streak-free shine. All linens should also be laundered at this time. Also, ensure that you dust, vacuum, and mop all applicable bathroom surfaces. Remember, this does mean all surfaces. Dust builds up slowly, even before it’s visible.
  • 7. Once a month, more often if needed, scrub the grout clean, and wipe down any areas that may not be adequately cleaned on a weekly basis. The monthly cleaning should include a real focus on detail, if you want to keep your bathrooms looking their best. Wipe down the insides of any shelves at this time, as well. Dust among your stored items, where needed. Wipe down the blinds with a sponge. This is also a good time to check the shower head for buildup. If you’ve noticed a decrease in water pressure recently, this may be the cause. If you fill a plastic bag with vinegar and attach it over the shower head overnight, then give it a good scrub, that should take care of a small amount of build-up, without the need to disassemble the shower head.
