Animal abuse occurred in Thailand in August 2011 when over 1,000 stray dogs were caught and some were stolen from homes. 119 dogs had already died from suffocation or being kept in small cages. This event highlighted Thailand's weak animal protection laws and caused tourists to view Thailand negatively. While some argue culling dogs helps control diseases and overpopulation, others were shocked by seeing trucks full of dogs being crushed and suffocated.
