This document discusses conventions commonly found in drama film trailers. It notes that drama trailers often focus on emotionally difficult real-life situations to engage audiences. Common elements shown include a person suffering and conflicts between groups. Illnesses are also featured to show characters unable to live normal lives. Unexpected plot twists create tension. Neighborhood settings allow audiences to relate locations to their own lives. Student film trailers are also analyzed, highlighting their use of conventions like mysterious elements, flashbacks, weapons, and heroes vs villains. Inspiration is drawn from effective use of music, pacing, and mystery in professional trailers like The Fault in Our Stars and Kidulthood.

The document discusses poverty and living conditions portrayed in the film City of God. It provides several statements about how the film depicts poverty in the favelas of Brazil. To support the statements, it cites specific examples, scenes, and details from the film that show the overcrowded and dirty conditions, including ragged clothes, kids without shoes, and layers of dirt on houses. One scene shows burnt out cars and trash around a boy on a bike. The document contrasts this with cleaner conditions and more open spaces shown in the 1960s favela. It suggests poverty leads the characters to act in certain ways and makes it difficult to escape, potentially contributing to involvement in violence and the drug trade.

This document summarizes a presentation on the topic of Turkish content and its effects. It discusses how Turkish dramas have become popular in Pakistan and examines their impact on Pakistani culture and drama industry. Some key points made include that Turkish dramas are considered un-Islamic by some due to their portrayal of romance and lifestyle. They are also seen as competition for the local drama industry and have achieved high viewership ratings. However, others argue that Pakistanis willingly watch these dramas and Pakistanis should improve their own content standards rather than blaming foreign influences. The document concludes by calling for Muslims to unite and reduce foreign control over media.
The document discusses the representation of ethnicity, specifically Brazilian ethnicity, in the film City of God. It notes that the Brazilian people are often portrayed negatively, associated with gangs, and have to cope with high crime and violence. However, some positive representations also exist, such as a community celebration scene. Overall, the representation focuses more on poverty, crime, and gang conflicts rather than the happier community spirit one might associate with Brazil. The audience is left with an impression that Brazilians live in constant gang-related crime and violence with little opportunity for positive change.

The document criticizes the juxtaposition of ads in a magazine that showcase wealthy, fashionable women against an article about helpless rural women facing poverty and loneliness. The ads from brands like Satya Paul, Bwitch, Gili, Crimsoune Club and D'Damas depict extravagantly dressed women socializing in cities, which mocks the extreme social disparity highlighted in the article through their use of colors like red and themes of casting spells, splurging and extravagance. This irresponsible placement of ads contrasts with the magazine's goal of being socially sensitive.

The article discusses the 1991 film Thelma & Louise, which celebrated its 20th anniversary. It argues the film was revolutionary for its time in telling an authentic story about women's lives that was written and directed by women. However, it notes there have been few comparable films in the past 20 years that pass the Bechdel test of having at least two named female characters who talk to each other about something other than a man. The article laments how women have lost cultural and political power and influence in the past 20 years, and that a film with a message like Thelma & Louise's could not be made today.

THE GLAMOROUS LIE SCREENS AT SECOND LA INDIE FILM FESTIVAL
Award-Winning Documentary Premieres New Cut March 16
Feature-Length Documentary Chronicles One Woman’s Triumph Over One Man’s Lies
Los Angeles, CA March 8, 2013 – YaVaughnie Willkins’ autobiographical documentary film THE
GLAMOROUS LIE has faced a tumultuous road since it started making the rounds of film festivals last
fall. The feature documentary, which chronicles her life and her eight and a half year relationship
with Infor CEO, former Oracle executive and Obama economic advisor Charles E. Phillips, Jr. was
buffeted by Phillips’ lawyers efforts to quash festival screenings of the film. Now, following a brand-
new cut, The LA Indie Film Fest has selected THE GLAMOROUS LIE to screen at its second Festival
Saturday, March 16 at 7:00PM at the Let Live Theatre, 916 North Formosa Avenue in west
Hollywood, CA 90046. For tickets visit http://laindiefilmfest.com/tickets
The original version of the explosive documentary made its world premiere at the Harlem
International Film Festival September 20, 2012, winning the Audience Award for a documentary
(www.harlemfilmfestival.com). Despite legal threats that pressured festivals to cancel screenings at
three festivals, the film went on to screen at the Bel-Air Film Festival and the LA Femme International
Film Festival in October, and made its international debut at the Oaxaca Film Festival in November.
Bel Air’s full-throated support was a bellwether for the film; THE GLAMOROUS LIE took home both
the Audience and Jury Awards for Best Documentary. Then, this past January, the film took home a
Gold Award from the 2012 California Film Awards for Best Feature
Documentary http://www.calfilmawards.com.
THE GLAMOROUS LIE tells a story that would make for a fantastic fictional drama: high-placed
boyfriend caught cheating; scorned girlfriend seeks very public acknowledgement. Billboards
throughout the country showing a very literal picture of couple, with the message “you are my soul
mate forever” posted larger than life over the streets of New York, Atlanta and Silicon Valley.

2. But this was no fictional drama: it was, and it is, real. Wilkins and Phillips’ break-up played out in
newspaper and television outlets around the world, but it was always characterized as a story of the
wrath of a woman scorned and the height to which she had gone to call out her cheating boyfriend.
But that was only part of the story.
The public knew little about Wilkins, the woman behind the billboards, and less still about how far
Phillips would go to cover up the truth about their relationship. THE GLAMOROUS LIE tells Wilkins’
account of the years leading up to, during and after the relationship.
THE GLAMOROUS LIE both sets up the drama of the relationship with Phillips and follows Wilkins
many months after the infamous billboard incident as she tries to move on with her life, starting her
home products business ReJuvenescence and other businesses while she continues to struggle with
her troubled past. (www.getrejuvenescence.com )
Phillips’ lawyers not only threatened the festivals that made THE GLAMOROUS LIE an official
selection; they sent “background materials” to media in order to mute press coverage of the film.
The LA Indie Film Festival screening will let the public—as well as the media—see the film for
themselves.
Wilkins says, “[Phillips], his associates and his legal team know they can't intimidate me so they have
resorted to threatening everyone associated with me, including the film festivals and theaters who,
before receiving the threatening cease and desist letters, had enthusiastically accepted THE
GLAMOROUS LIE as an ‘Official Selection’ screening.”
She continues, “I am not afraid of people finding out who the ‘real’ YaVaughnie Wilkins is; I’ve put it
on screen and paper for all to see. Phillips cannot say the same. We are looking forward to each
festival screening and stand ready in each case to blunt Phillips’ attempts to quash them.”
The film’s ongoing drama—Wilkins, family members, friends, businesses associates and even casual
past acquaintances remain victims of ongoing surveillance and intimidation—makes the final chapter
of THE GLAMOROUS LIE a softer than cliff’s edge, with another chapter perhaps yet to be written.
