Orlando Rabello Teruz was a Brazilian painter, born and died in
Rio de Janeiro (1902-1984).
Constancy in themes and a well-defined style, which he chose
to deepen rather than diversifying, make his work instantly
recognizable in Brazilian art.
Teruz usually depicts with simplicity popular scenes and the
picturesqueness of the everyday life.
His work is a mixture of concern with social problems,
introspective lyricism and a certain
nostagia for childhood.
Sensuality is one of the most striking features of Teruz’s work,
Interestingly, its rendering does not give space for
eroticism itself. In case of female nudes, he manages to convey an
erotic vision of women without ever sliding towards vulgarity.
His nudes are, in their entirety, chaste.
