Reaching the highest point of the Earth is one of the greatest expeditions of mankind. It made Edmund Hillary famous. After reading Hillary’s ‘View from the Summit’ Gijs van Wulfen shares ten innovation lessons on being 1st on Mount Everest.
Neil Armstrong was born in Ohio in 1930 and took an early interest in aviation from a young age. He began taking flying lessons at 15 and received his pilot's license before graduating high school. After studying aeronautical engineering in college, he joined the Navy and became a pilot. Armstrong later joined NASA and in 1966 flew his first space mission as part of Gemini 8. On July 20, 1969, Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon as commander of the Apollo 11 mission.
The document profiles 6 influential African American heroes for Black History Month: Barack Obama, the first African American president of the United States; Sojourner Truth, an escaped slave and women's rights activist; Whitney Houston, a legendary singer and actress; Jackie Robinson, the first African American baseball player in the major leagues; Mae Jemison, the first African American woman in space; and Frederick Jones, an inventor who developed refrigerated trucks and other devices. The document provides biographical details on each individual's accomplishments and significance.
Sir Edmund Hillary was a famous New Zealand mountaineer and explorer best known for being one of the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest. He grew up in New Zealand and became famous after his successful 1953 expedition to climb Everest. After his climbing success, Hillary led several expeditions and helped establish schools and hospitals in Nepal. His achievements inspired many and helped change lives around the world.
60th anniversary of the first successful ascent of Mount Everest, 29 may 1953guimera
The first successful ascent of Mount Everest occurred in 1953 through a British expedition led by John Hunt. The expedition built on failed Swiss attempts from 1952 and included experienced climbers like Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal. On May 29, 1953, Hillary and Norgay became the first people to reach the summit of Everest, finally conquering the mountain after decades of attempts.
Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world at 8,848 meters. It is located in the Himalayas between Nepal and Tibet. Mount Everest was formed 60 million years ago when the Indian plate collided with the Eurasian plate, pushing up the land and forming the Himalayan mountain range. The first successful ascent of Mount Everest was made in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Reaching the summit requires careful planning and navigation to deal with challenges like high altitude, low oxygen, extreme cold, and dangerous conditions.

Mount Everest was first summited in 1953 by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, though some believe George Mallory may have reached the top in 1924 before dying on the descent. People are drawn to climb Everest for personal satisfaction and prestige, though the prestige associated with climbing it may have diminished as commercial expeditions have increased accessibility. Reaching the summit still requires excellent physical fitness, technical skills, and risk management given dangers like weather, altitude sickness, falls, and avalanches. Some climbers now attempt unprecedented feats without oxygen or new routes to regain prestige. Environmental impacts have occurred as commercial tourism has grown, including waste accumulation and impacts on local communities.
In May 1996, 11 people died in a blizzard on Mount Everest. They succumbed to hypothermia, altitude sickness, and other conditions at 25,000 feet above sea level. Two expedition teams led by Rob Hall and Scott Fischer were caught in a whiteout blizzard with 40 degree below zero temperatures. Both Hall and Fischer and several other climbers from their groups died in the storm. The tragedy was attributed to overconfidence by the expedition leaders, a focus on reaching the summit despite worsening conditions, and an underestimation of the risks of climbing Everest.

Biochemical changes during high altitude mountaineeringratkins5
This document discusses various biochemical changes that occur in the body during high altitude mountaineering. It explains that decreased oxygen levels at altitude can cause illnesses like altitude sickness. The body responds through acclimatization over days or weeks, including increases in red blood cells, kidney compensation through water loss, and improved mitochondria in muscles. Genetic adaptations are seen in Tibetan Sherpas, like variants of the EPAS1 gene that regulate oxygen carrying capacity of the blood and reduce risks of illness.
The Himalayas are the source of three major Indian rivers namely the Indus, the Ganga and the Brahmaputra. Ganga drains a basin of extraordinary variation in altitude, climate, land use, flora & fauna, social and cultural life.Ganga has been a cradle of human civilization since time immemorial. Millions depend on this great river for physical and spiritual sustenance. People have immense faith in the powers of healing and regeneration of the Ganga. It is arguably the most sacred river in the world and is deeply revered by the people of this country. The River plays a vital role in religious ceremonies and rituals. To bathe in Ganga is a lifelong ambition of many who congregate in large numbers for several river centered festivals such as Kumbh Mela and numerous Snan (bath) festivals.
To climb Mount Everest, one needs proper equipment and supplies to handle the extreme conditions, and there are dangers to watch out for such as avalanches and altitude sickness. The first people to reach the summit of Everest were Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norkay from Nepal in 1953. Extra facts provided about Everest include its formation process, different parts of mountains, and types of mountains.

This document discusses mandibular fractures, including:
- Mandibular fractures are most commonly seen in the body and subcondylar regions.
- Factors like the direction of force, anatomy of the mandible and attached muscles, and age influence the site and displacement of fractures.
- Common signs and symptoms include swelling, pain, step deformities, and malocclusion.
- Treatment involves closed or open reduction and fixation to restore functional alignment while the bone heals. Methods include intermaxillary fixation with arch bars or cap splints, or open reduction with wiring or plate osteosynthesis.
The trip to Mount Everest, Hymalayas, NEPALvinhbinh2010
The document is a photo journal from a trip to Mount Everest and the Nepalese Himalayas. It contains over 50 pictures taken between August 8th and August 12th documenting the scenery, villages, and peaks along the route including Lukla, Dingboche, Gorak Shep, and Everest Base Camp. The photos show the natural beauty of the region and provide glimpses of local life near the tallest mountain in the world.
The document provides information about climbing Mount Everest, including its elevation of 29,029 feet above sea level and temperatures that can be 100°F below zero at the summit with only a third of the oxygen level of sea level. It then lists the members of the 1996 Everest expedition teams from Adventure Consultants and Mountain Madness, led by guides Rob Hall, Mike Groom, Andy Harris, and Scott Fischer with eleven total climbers between the two teams.
Mount Everest is located between Nepal and China, with its summit marking the border between the two countries. At 29,035 feet, it is the tallest mountain in the world. Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal were the first to successfully reach the summit, doing so in 1953 from the Nepalese side. Climbing Everest requires extensive preparation and it can take months for the body to adjust to the high altitudes, with climbers burning over 10,000 calories per day and losing 10-20 pounds during an expedition.
This document discusses various types of facial bone fractures including the nasal bones, maxilla, zygomatic bones, and mandible. It describes the common causes of facial fractures such as road traffic accidents, falls, assaults, and sports injuries. The key aspects of managing facial trauma are controlling airway, hemorrhage, and treating associated injuries. Examination involves checking specific areas of the face. Treatment options depend on the type and severity of the fracture and may include closed or open reduction as well as splinting or internal fixation with plates or screws.
Wiring techniques in maxillofacial surgerySyed Abuthagir
This document discusses various techniques for closed reduction of mandibular fractures including direct and indirect interdental wiring methods like Essig's, Gilmer's, and Risdon's wiring. It also covers arch bar fixation, circummandibular wiring, perialveolar wiring, and suspension wiring techniques like frontal suspension and circumzygomatic wiring. The advantages of closed reduction are that it is more conservative than surgery and can be used for medically compromised patients, but disadvantages include airway compromise, loss of function, decreased nutrition, and effects of prolonged intermaxillary fixation like joint adhesions and osteoporosis.

Mountaineering involves hiking, skiing, and climbing mountains. It began as attempts to reach high unclimbed mountain peaks but has expanded to include rock climbing, snow climbing, skiing, and maintaining safety. Sir Edmund Hillary was a famous New Zealand mountaineer who in 1953 became the first person confirmed to reach the summit of Mount Everest with Tenzing Norgay. He devoted much of his later life to philanthropic work to help the Sherpa people of Nepal through the Himalayan Trust that he founded. He died in 2008 at the age of 88.
Past explorers like Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hilary, who were the first to climb Mt. Everest, inspired Charles Howard to explore mountains. Charles Howard was in the British army for three years without being shot and explored Mt. Everest from 1921 to 1921. He started the Blue Mountain program to help poor people by giving them homes, and was inspired by Norgay, Hilary, and his general in the British army to explore.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs

2. 1. Urgency
Pick the right moment
In 1952 the British heard that in 1954 the
French had been given permission to
attempt Everest. They just had to be first
un 1953. The expedition could not fail
again.
3. 2. Initiative
Take action
Hillary read in a newspaper that the
British were taking an expedition to the
south side of Mount Everest. He wrote a
letter to expedition leader suggesting
members of a New Zealand climbing
expedition could make a contribution to
the team.
4. 3. Luck
Luck will be on your side
With so many possible setbacks you also need some
luck. As New Zealander Hillary was lucky to be
classified as a British subject and was therefore
invited by the British.
5. 4. Passion
Do what you dream
As a youngster, Hillary was a great
dreamer. He read many adventure books
and walked many miles with his head in
the clouds.
6. 5. Choices
Make clear choices
The British Himalayan Committee replaced the 1951
expedition leader Eric Shipton by Colonel John Hunt, a
climber. After eight failed attempts on Everest they
needed someone to get them on the top in 1953,
before the French had their chance.
7. 6. Overcome Setbacks
Shit happens: continue
Along the way there are always major setbacks. After
the reconnaissance expedition of 1951, when they
found a new route up Everest, the British heard that
the Swiss had obtained permission for two attempts on
Everest the following year. The only thing they could do
was wait and see if the Swiss would succeed.
8. 7. Test
Test-Test-Test-Test-Test…….
On the reconnaissance expedition of 1951 team
members tested oxygen equipment and did research
on high-altitude physiology. The results of both studies
were important deciding on the right approach for
Everest in 1953.
9. 8. Teamwork
Make sacrifices for each other
Hillary wrote: “John Hunt and D Namgyal’s lift to the
depot on the South-East Ridge; George Low, Alf
Gregory and Ang Nyima with their superb support at
Camp IX; and the pioneer effort by Charles Evans and
Tom Bourdillon to the South Summit. Their
contribution had enabled us to make such good
progress”.
10. 9. Competition
A little internal competition boosts results
Who would be the top teams? Expedition leader Hunt
proposed that Evans and Bourdillon should use the
closed circuit oxygen equipment to reach the South
Summit and Norgay and Hillary would push to the top
