- IndividuallyAimeeNicoleErinDioneElisabethTogether we are - Tech Girls UK! We started thinking about how we could design an app that benefitted our local community. We started by thinking about things we wanted to change. We found some problems . . .
- rubbish is a big issue in our community and we wanted to stop his from being a problem.
- vandalism is a big problem in our community and we wanted to stop his from being a problem.
- abandoned buildings are a big issue in our community and we wanted to stop his from being a problem.
- unemployment is also a big issue in our community and we wanted to stop this from being a problem.
- Boredom is also a big problem in our community and we wanted to stop this from being a problem.
- Here we will talk about how we wanted to solve all these issues using a mobile application, so we decided to do some experiments to see how we could help with these problems.
- We went to lab to try and think of an idea!
- And thought again!
- We attended various meetings with our teacher and our mentor to help us, and we had an idea.
- What if our Generation -Generation Z, could get moreinvolved in the community?What if local councils andbusinesses could post small jobsthey needed doing into a mobileapplication. Then young people could help them out.They could help on communityprojects like litter picking, paintingor helping local causes.We called it Re-Genz, because it isaboutGeneration Z regeneratingtheir community. We then thought about if people would really be motivated enough to do this work. So we decided to go back to the lab.
- So we went back to the lab and thought about what motivates people the best. We tried an experiment where we offered a student a sweet or a letter home telling there parents that they have done a good job. Most students chose the letter which shows recognition. So we concluded that recognition is important part in what motivates us but small rewards are good too.
- We have decided to have 2 customers for the app, the organisers and the volunteers. The volunteers are the young people who want to help and the organisations are the businesses and local councils who will be organising the events. People think hoodies don’t want to help but they do if they are given the opportunity. So to reward volunteers we will give them recognition by creating a leader board with points so that you can battle out with your friends on Facebook Twitter and Linked in. So how would we get rewards to them?
- We asked local councils and businesses if they would support our app. These local organisations thought it was a great idea and even offered to give out prizes to the volunteers taking part. But why would they do this? Well since advertising is getting harder on mobile phones we are offering advertising to these businesses on re-genz, with prizes and advertisement they get positive advertising and it gives them corporate social responsibility so it makes them look good.
- We tried to ask the queen but she wasn’t home.
- This is the profile for the volunteers. On our app people log in with Facebook so they can see which events their friends are doing too. They have a profile page.
- Organisers have profile pages as well and can post multiple events.
- The events are listed by date, time and location, they are also worth points.
- The leader board on the app showswho has the mostpoints in a local area. These points mean prizes,or discounts from our sponsors.
- Why should you chose us? Our app helps the community, we have already have local support, we are British which makes us awesome. We would love to go to America.
