My first teaching assignment only a month away, I decided to sit in on a
managerial accounting class being taught by Ryan Teeter, my friend and
colleague. I couldn’t have made a better move; Ryan was professional
throughout the class period and demonstrated to me the importance of
reaching out to students on their level. Using real-world examples (e.g.
iPods instead of the ubiquitous “widgets”), a relatable sense of humor,
and real-time demonstrations of complex concepts (e.g. flex budgets),
Ryan made sure that his students were engaged throughout the class.
Having come in at the very tail-end of his class, I could tell that Ryan had
spent the past semester establishing a rapport with many class members,
most likely through fielding questions and making things easier to
understand. If there is one thing I feel that Ryan could improve upon, it
would be eliciting concerns from the less vocal class members. However, I
only learned that lesson after teaching my own class and falling into the
same trap of assuming that silence is equal to understanding.
Were I an undergraduate accounting major at Rutgers, I would take
great pains to ensure a seat in Ryan Teeter’s class. He is urbane,
sympathetic, and extremely understanding of the student’s point of view,
and I wish I’d had more professors like him when I was coming up
through the ranks.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to introduce students to the assumptions, principles, and practice of managerial accounting.
The course content consists of a mix of descriptive material, managerial accounting rules, and the application of
these rules to various business situations. Topics include a detailed discussion of the accounting cycle, accounting
for assets, liabilities, and shareholders’ equity, and management reports preparation. The course is one of the
foundation courses for all advanced accounting classes, and as such is of great importance for building a successful
accounting career. It is also of great value to individuals involved in other business areas.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The course consists primarily of lectures and problem solving and is designed to help students develop an
understanding of the major elements of managerial accounting. The course is designed and taught in such a way
that helps students integrate material into real-world situation. A tentative course schedule is attached.tion, as
confirmed by your advisor, for your absence from the exam. The best way to prepare for the exams is to do the
coursework and attend class.

“Provide EASIER EXAM, extra help outside of classes if at all possible. Different methods, techniques,
etc. to encourage and express different styles of learning MORE PRACTICE PROBLEMS AND
EXAMPLE EXAM TYPE QUESTIONS TO PREP FOR THE EXAM (which is pretty much being done
already it would seem). CHANGE THE LATENESS/ATTENDANCE POLICY. No personal problems
with this as I was rarely late or missed class however. Seems entirely too strict though. Absences or
lateness should be allowed/excusable indefinitely -- WITH PROPER VERIFICATION/
DOCUMENTATION, of course. Also, make the exams easier. Unless the goal is for the exams to
purposely be written in a difficult or challenging matter. NO current events (waste of class time in my

"Computer Augmented Accounting" is a a required undergraduate accounting information systems course
that introduces students to the main ideas and fundamental technology underlying the development,
implementation, and use of modern accounting information systems. This course covers the following
issues: elements of relational database systems (on the example of MS Access), overview of systems
analysis and design, logical and physical modeling for database systems design, Resources-Events-Agents
(REA) approach to business data modeling, database view of revenue and procurement business processes.

This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of computer
systems and application software. It presents a hands-on approach to spreadsheet, database, and
word processing packages, as well as web apps and other Internet services.

help students develop an understanding of the major functionality of Microsoft Office 2007. The
course is designed and taught in such a way that helps students integrate material into real-world

Course Description
We identify and locate data sources, consider ways to gather primary and secondary data, perform
analysis using the computer, and effectively interpret and present findings. We focus on essential
tools for the investigation of business phenomena where chance variation is a factor. The design
of experiments, sampling, measuring, prediction, and causation are among the topics discussed.
We reexamine concepts covered in the prerequisite statistics course from a more critical
perspective. Excel is used extensively to illustrate business research principles including simulation.

Course Structure
The course consists primarily of lectures and problem solving and is designed to help students
develop an understanding of business statistics. The course is designed and taught in such a way
