In the 1960s, a teacher observed a large class divide in education, where middle class families sent their children to private schools and universities, leading to well-paid jobs, while working class families sent their kids to state schools, where most would leave early for low-skilled, low-paid jobs with little chance of progression or consideration of university.

Middle class families often send their
children to private schools, where they
then go on to top universities and gain a
well pad job. Whereas working class
families, their kids often go to state
schools and don’t even think about
university. Most will leave school early
to get a job so they can support their
families. These jobs will be low skilled
and low paid and they will have little
opportunity to progress.
