• Roller coasters were inspired by Russians.
In the winter they would build wooden 70 foot
hills or ramps. Because it was winter snow
would gather on the hills and freeze. This
would create a track for people to slide down.
• This inspired Americas to do the same. But due
to the milder weather, we had to make
changes. These changes slowly evolved into the
roller coasters we see today.
6. Wooden Roller Coasters
• wooden
wooden roller coasters
are not able to go as
fast or high as steel.
But the track tends to
sway, making the ride
more scary. Also, wooden
roller coasters cannot have
loops.
7. Steel Roller Coasters
• Steel roller coasters
are taller and faster then
wood. .
• Steel roller coasters are
able to have loops.
• (For these reasons
most people prefer
steel. But I will let you be the judge.)
8. Front vs. Back
• The front car will have the best view.
Some people say this makes the ride
more scary. But the front car will go
slower.
• The back will go faster because all the
other cars are pulling it.
9. Oblivion
• Oblivion is a roller
coaster in Alton Towers, in England.
• It was the first roller
coaster with a vertical drop.
• It lasts about 75 seconds, and it’s top speed is
68 mph.
10. 3 Different Wheels
• The 1st wheel is the road wheel. The
road wheel rides on top of the rail and
carries the car. It keeps the car from
jumping off the track.
• The guide wheel stops the car from
sliding off the track sideways.
• The last wheel is called the upstop
wheel.
