I think the kit in a can is good, because it comes with a few first aid things but it also
comes with hiking camping survival things, but the others mainly come just with first aid
supplies. Also its little so it looks like it could be easier to carry around. Hope you enjoy

Well, what‟s left over after New Year…
I planned on doing quite a few indoor photos, but forgot to take any lighting (I would
have taken two Vivitar flashes along)
The only reason I took all that kit along was that we had a very short walk to the chalet, as
there was almost no snow on the road and we were able to ride allmost all the way to the
top.
Carrying it back down about 45 minutes (we expected snow during the night and got the
car much lower down) confirmed that it‟s not practical to carry on hikes.as the whole lot
weighed close to 30kg…

I go hiking by myself all the time, although I would never go for more than a day at a time
because of how risky it is (don‟t want to end up like the 127 hours guy) to be in the
wilderness alone. Also, don‟t get to caught up in buying alot of equipment and trying to
bring it with you on every hike. Equipment can get expensive, and wearing a heavy pack
can really detract from the fun of the outdoors.
What I usually pack for a dayhike (I use the Kelty Redwing 3100, found it on
campmor.com for $ 50, great multi-purpose pack)
1) First aid including bandages/band-aids, alchol wipes, scissors, tweezers, gauze,
moleskin, and sting relief pads
2) Pocket knife (ontario RAT-1)
3) Larger knife (SOG Seal pup elite)
4) 1 gallon of water for every 8 miles I plan to hike + 16oz for an emergency
5) Whatever meals I plan to eat on the way plus a jar of Jiffy peanut butter incase I get
lost and need calories
6) Rain jacket
7) Lighter and swedish firesteel Multi-tool (Leatherman Juice C2)
9) Whistle (Fox 40)
10) Map and compass
11) Flashlight and back-up lights (Fenix LD20, Mag-lite 2D, Mag-lite Minimag)
12) Spare socks
13) 100ft of 550 cord
14) A roll of regular twine
15) 3 Glow sticks (like the ones people use at rave parties, or little kids have at holloween)
-All of these things packed in the bag way around 30 lbs for a typical dayhike, with most
of the weight coming from food and water.

I hear you need special tickets to get into the hiking camping tents, and that they are now

You don‟t need special tickets to get into the tents, but the tents get very crowded and if
you don‟t have a reservation, you may have to wait to get in and may not be able to get a
seat. We go every year and never have reservations, but we go in the tents early when they
open in the morning. You can stay until the afternoon reservations start arriving (4-5
pm). Week days are better than weekends for finding a spot, but there are always huge
crowds.
Reservations are generally sold out a year in advance – you‟re very unlikely to find
anything at this late date. You might try some of the tour agencies though. Personally, I
like the Ochsenbraterei

Maybe not the cheapest place, but certainly the best site I have stayed at is Kiln park. It
has all the facilities you would expect to find at a Haven site (club, restaurant, shops etc)
and it‟s really close to the beach. Tenby town centre is only a short walk along the beach
too, tide permitting of course.

guidelines. You may want to track your food eaten and make sure that you are drinking

originally planned to stay only 1-2 days in Puerto Natales, the gateway to Torres del Paine
National Park. But as I met many other travellers, it was clear that I needed to spend
some time doing one of the ´circuit´ hikes in the park. I was fortunate to have met a
Korean couple in Ushuaia and we agreed to meet in Puerto Natales and do the ´W´
circuit together. Torres del Paine is the most famous and most photographed park in
Chile. The centerpiece is the actual Torres del Paine (Paine Towers) which are 3 towers
which emanate vertically from the rocks below. The French Valley is known for its bowl
like shape with the surrounding Cuernos and Cumbres looking down upon it. On the
western edge is Glacier Grey, which is about 4.5miles wide at its widest point and
stretches back to the Campo de Hielo Sur (Southern Ice Field), one of the largest ice fields
outside of the north and south poles. We did the W in 5 days and we hiked a total of
80km (50mi). The weather on the first day was very windy with a little rain, but the
weather was great for the rest of the trip. It was cold at night but the days were nice, with
some level of wind. The circuit was amazing! The views were spectactular and unspoiled.

Two guys were walking through the woods one day when one of them glanced behind
them and noticed a bear following them. He could see that the bear hadn‟t seen them yet,
so he quickly sat on the ground and began taking off his hiking boots. By the time his
friend noticed him sitting there, he had pulled his running shoes out of his backpack and
was putting them on.
His friend said, “What are you doing ?”
His friend pointed up the trail to reveal the bear coming towards them slowly but surely.
He said,” Man you‟re crazy. There‟s no way you can outrun that bear!!”

Question by MRCOOL: Is pet smart good for socializing my 8 month German
Shepherd puppy?
So basically when my dog was a younger puppy I could only find small dogs to play with
him but he met sooooo many of my friends and family, short and tall he met them all. But
a week and half of bad weather kept us inside he started to get scared of tall people but
was still okay with small children and friends that were average height but then another
two weeks later he started to bark in a low tone but not lunging or growling, nothing to
show signs of aggression. He is trained to the point where he‟ll track with his nose,sit,stay
to a certain point, lay down, speak on command and shake paws. Hes very friendly to
friends cautious of big people as was demonstrated at pet smart where he started barking
at everyone. But when a small dog passed by he was waggin his tail and wanted to play.
When I signed up for training the trainer told me he just needed to get used to many
situations and even suggested to join her facebook page called (paws on the shore) where
he would meet many other dogs and situations on a hike. So I‟m wondering does it seem
like a good training plan for my scaredy cat shepherd. If not please tell me of better
training place near york region or Toronto, that you have experienced. Thank You.

The socialisation period ended when Pup became 13 weeks old, although if well started
before that it can continue through 16 weeks old.
Although everyone calls it “socialisation”, that is actually a bad term, deluding people
such as yourself into thinking it means playing with people & pups. A more accurate term

18. would be exposure or familiarisation. The purpose is to (once Pup trusts you) expose it –
from a distance PUP considers safe – to every movement, reflection, scent, sight, sound,
texture to be found in its environment. It should be done on a 6ft/2m lead where there
are NO dogs running loose, with Pup allowed to try to “explore in all directions at once”
except when you need to haul it away from dangerous or disgusting things, or from a
scared human. And if Pup wants to sit & think about a new thing, or to hide behind you,
you should let it, patiently waiting still & silent until Pup decides to ignore or investigate
this new thing, whereupon you praise it – and, if it is still close enough, give it a rub or
pat of encouragement.
