went 3-7, missing the play-
offs for the first time in
nearly 15 years. The school
insists the move is not due

season. Since 1980, Glades

kicked the ball into the empty
netto tie thegame at1-1.
Vazquez, a freshman mid-
fielder, picked up her second
goal of the match in the final
minuteofthefirsthalfwhenshe
struck a shot from 40 yards out
over the outstretched arms of
Barron for a 2-1 halftime cush-
ion. It was her seventh and
eighthgoalsof the season.
American Heritage coach
Paul Gregory said the two goals
at the end of the first half were
thedifference.
“Ithink thathurtpsychologi-
cally,” Gregory said. “I think the
momentum definitely swung in
that last five minutes of the half.
Wereallylostthemidfieldinthe
second half and they were defi-
nitely thebetter side.”
Cardinal Gibbons made it 3-1
in the 51st minute on Critten-
berger’s team-leading 19th goal
of the season. The Chiefs pad-
ded its lead to 4-1 just two min-
utes later when Amy Barra
scored.

“I thought we played
well,”FlanagancoachLatra-
vis Bernard said. “[Despite
the double-digit victory] we
had a lot of defensive break-
downs. We didn’t move our
feet as well as I like. Hope-
fully we can get that fixed
tomorrow.”
Guard Jennifer Oramas
added 21 points for Flana-
gan. Oramas and Harrigan
are both Sun Sentinel Fab 5
players. The loss dropped
Northeast to16-6.
Ely (16-4) led Dillard
32-31 at the half and 51-50
heading into the final quar-
ter, but the Tigers couldn’t
stop in the inside presence
of Johnson and Allen. John-
son scored 15 of her 24
points in the final two quar-
tersandAllenputhome13of
her17 in the second half.
“We knew coming in Dil-
lard is a solid team,” Ely
coach Shantel Haye said.
“We came up short at the
end. They played a great
game. Toward the end Dil-
lard went to work on the
inside on us.”
Dillard took its biggest
lead of the game 68-58 with
about three minutes to go.
Ely cut the margin to 72-70
on a 3-pointer by Brianna
Battle with 11 seconds left.
However, Allen was fouled
on the ensuing possession
and made 1 of 2 free throws
to put Dillard back up three
with six seconds left.
TyeshaBattle’s3-pointat-
tempt at the buzzer was off
the mark.
