Street luge originated in Southern California as skateboarders found they could reach faster speeds lying down on their boards. Street luge involves riding a skateboard in a supine position at very high speeds, sometimes over 64 km/h, though it has little relation to the winter Olympic sport of luge other than the name and riding position. Street luge is popular in several countries including Canada, South Africa, Australia, and parts of Europe.
