In 2021, 186,761 decare of strawberries were planted in Turkey, about 31.2% of which were planted under protective cover (58,242 decare) and the total strawberry production in the same year was 669,195 tons, while the quantity of strawberries produced in under protective cover was 253,153 tons, which represents 37.8% of the total amount of strawberries produced in Turkey. Strawberries are planted in low tunnels with 47.2% (27504 decare) of the total cultivation under protective cover, while cultivation in high tunnels constitutes 39.5% (23005 decare), while cultivation in plastic greenhouse 12.9% (7520 decare) and in glass greenhouses the percentage of 0.4 % (213 decare). Mersin Province ranks 1st in terms of cultivation area and the quantity of production for strawberries in 2021, about 44,475 decare were planted and 259,958 tons were produced. Strawberry cultivation under protective cover represents about 71% of the total area (31,603 decare), while the percentage of production under protective cover in Mersin is 52.6 % (136,825 tons). Antalya province ranks 3rd in terms of the total quantity of production 62,488 tons cultivated on an area of 14,832 decare, while Antalya ranks 2nd in the area of strawberries planted under protective cover, which constitutes 97.5% of the total area of cultivated land (14,455 decare), and produces 98.5% of the total production 61,534 tons Aydin province ranks 2nd in terms of production quantity 66,237 tons, planted on an area of 16,377 decare, and strawberry cultivation under protective cover represents about 52.6% of the total area (8,609 decare), while the percentage of production under protective cover in Aydin province is 52.4%, (34,700 tons).
