State of Technology A Review of the Current District Technology Plan
What are we looking at? What we've accomplished   What we've got left to do   Things that are working...and things that aren't     Changes for future plans?
The Current FCSU Tech Plan Goals Shared with State Technology Plan Student-Centered Learning Leadership in a Student-Centered Environment Flexible Learning Environments Engaged Community Partners Many of these goals also align with National Educational Technology Standards (NETS)
What We Have Accomplished Develop the use of technology to support assessment in all content areas including technology VCAT allows classroom teachers to input grades/assessments Google Docs for student portfolios. Students self-reflect on their learning and share with their teacher
What We Have Accomplished Model the use of technology in everyday practice. Build awareness of student use of technology beyond school walls Technology is used for teacher collaboration (email, google apps), as well as student (google docs/portfolio). Teachers present lessons and provide instruction via demonstration, online videos, and activities. Students are able to sample learning through multiple methods, and can demonstrate learning in different ways through technology, even when they’re out of the building.
What We Have Accomplished Provide students adequate access to technology tools within conducive physical environments for student-centered learning Learning Communities have access to laptop carts and dedicated desktop computers for the project-based activities
What still needs to be done? Assessing tech use among staff is lacking...is the PD working? We’ve spent lots of time and money getting technology in the building, but we still don’t know exactly who’s using it and for what purposes… … HOWEVER… Advent of the Personal Evaluation Plans (PEP) requires teachers to create a learning outcome (to support their students) around the use of technology.
What’s on track…? Coursework in technology is utilized by teachers and supported by administrators Develop expectations for district professional development activities that require the integration of 21st century tools and a focus on student-centered learning in classrooms.
What’s on track…? Build awareness of student use of technology beyond school walls, and seek ways to integrate these tools into everyday instruction and student learning plans Explore scenarios for students to utilize student-owned technology on the school campus We’ve added iPods and iPads to the library, and sign-out carts, as well as providing unsecured wi-fi for public access.
… or off track? Extend Learning opportunities to collaborate with schools and students nationally or internationally. Students will be involved in the creation of collaborative tools for local projects and entities, and collaborate with community partners to increase access to technology tools. sits unused in the library… This doesn’t happen…but could!
What needs to change? Most of the goals are  teacher-centered and research-oriented.  We need to change our focus and start becoming more student-centered.  We’ve had many years to research this already. No plan in place to evaluate or assess the effectiveness of the plan or even parts of the plan.   If we don’t hold ourselves accountable, how do we know if we’re making progress?  Are we being responsible with the community’s resources?
