Floor Bolts Research – fixing ramps in position
We need to find a way of fixing the
ramps to the stage when wheeled
into position, so they don’t move
around. Floor bolts are a better
option to using brakes, as brakes
could be moved by the momentum
of the skates and make a lot of noise.
I researched bolts that can be easily
lowered into position with a foot or
by hand, and drop into the stage
into pre-positioned holes thereby
guaranteeing correct positioning.
The first example I found was in
America, so I found more suitable
examples in the UK.
Initially the ones I found were too
heavy duty and the bolt/hole
would’ve created a rut/bump that
would be a hazard to the skaters. I
concluded that we needed smaller
bolts, but more of them so the
strength wasn’t compromised.

6. PRODUCTION MEETING 08/01/ - With Set Designer
re; World Championship Trophy
In Starlight Express, Rusty wins the world championship prize, so i needed to source a large trophy for him to be presented with. After some
research, I concluded that a trophy large enough would be expensive to buy, so I decided to make a design and build it from wood by hand
instead.
It will consist of a platform with a train based around traditional steam train template with the word ‘champion’ printed on the base large
enough for the audience to see. The outline will be made out of wood and I will paint it in theme with Rusty's train and carriage colours.
The image above left, will be the template that the wood is cut from – the base, wheels and pipes will be separate and glued together with
wood glue, then I will either paint over the details of the image above right, or leave it as a silhouette.

7. Production Meeting with ASM’s and DSM’s 08/01/
Things to do:
• Find 24 castors in the hall next week
• Train tray – how big? Find trainset first
• Foam bricks
• Think about making the trainset ourselves – designs? Allocated job to Elishia
• We need cue sheets – when are the props needed on stage? Scenes/page numbers speak to Lauren
• Speak to Mr Whitford (set) re; making our own trophy, and draw a design
• Find cosmos bucket from SITR from props store
