Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

щает ее в открытый снизу блок плавучести,
приподнимающий корпус над водой, но и иг-
рает роль эффективной «воздушной смазки»,
заметно снижающей сопротивление корпуса
на ходу.
На первых серийных катерах с такой
каверной (пр. 14081 «Сайгак» разработки
петербургского КБ «Редан») воздух в эту по-
лость принудительно подавался отдельным
воздушным насосом, но вскоре стало ясно,
что для эффективной работы каверны впол-
не достаточно и одних выхлопных газов ос-
новного двигателя. На «БМБ 20 М», в основу
которого заложен как раз корпус
«Сайгака», каверна, наполняемая
выхлопными газами от пары ди-
зельных Volvo Penta D6, разгру-
жает корпус примерно на четыре
тонны. И дело вовсе не в относи-
тельно небольшом давлении, со-
здаваемом выхлопной системой.
Специально для сомневающихся
приведем очень простой при-
мер: пляжный надувной матрас
при желании можно накачать и
аквариумным насосиком-аэрато-
ром, но при этом в надутом виде
он уверенно выдерживает вес
взрослого человека и на воде, и
на суше.
Почему именно «Сайгак»? Два катера это-
го проекта интенсивно эксплуатируются на
Байкале с 1992 года. Им не раз приходилось
оказываться и в жестких штормовых усло-
виях на трехметровой волне, на которые они
изначально не рассчитывались. Были случаи
вылета катеров на берег или переезда через
плавающие бревна. Поразила исключитель-
ная прочность корпусов — существенных де-
формаций даже после таких происшествий
не наблюдалось.
Более чем за 20 лет эксплуатации «в одних
руках» все пожелания по улучшению проек-
та окончательно сформировались у обоих
владельцев. Требования, которые предстояло
реализовать, во многом учитывали специфи-
ку Байкала, но в чем-то подходят и для любых
малообитаемых водных просторов России.
Это должно быть безопасное, с достаточно вы-
сокой крейсерской скоростью, достигнутой
наименьшими усилиями, комфортабельное
и удобное в обслуживании судно с возмож-
ностью бездозаправочных плаваний на боль-
шие расстояния и определенным набором
функций, отвечающих целям отдыха. Все эти
требования были сведены воедино, немного
подкорректированы с учетом технологиче-
ских возможностей и вскоре реализованы не
только в новом проекте БМБ.14081.М1 иркут-
ского конструкторского бюро «А4», одобрен-
ном Речным регистром, но и «в металле».
В процессе модернизации в базовый про-
ект «Сайгака» были внесены кардинальные
конструктивные и компоновочные измене-
ния. Изначальные габариты катера (14 × 3,5 м)
увеличили до 19,9 × 4,6 м (одним из требова-
ний было уложиться в 20-метровое ограниче-
ние длины, позволяющей при пассажировме-
стимости 12 человек регистрировать судно в
ГИМС) — прежде всего, за счет солидного но-
вого «обвеса».
Клиновидные побортные наделки вдоль
планширей позволили не только заметно
увеличить ширину палубы и, в первую оче-
редь, бортовых проходов (где легко разой-
тись двоим), но и с лихвой компенсировали
потерю общей жесткости при более «ажур-
ном» внутреннем наборе, позволившем зна-
чительно расширить внутреннее обитаемое
пространство (к яхтам в этом плане предъяв-
ляются иные требования, нежели к военным
судам).
Н
е зря в известной старинной песне
Байкал именуется морем. Более
того, седьмое по площади поверх-
ности и самое глубокое в мире
озеро для судоводителя зачастую сложнее и
опаснее моря. Его вытянутая форма не толь-
ко дает простор для разгона высокой, больше
пяти метров, волны, но также по причине
больших расстояний предъявляет высокие
требования к автономности судна практиче-
ски по всем показателям: увы, но какая-либо
сервисная инфраструктура по берегам озера
практически отсутствует. Нет проблем толь-
ко с водой — она здесь настолько чиста, что
пить ее можно прямо из-за борта (некоторое
исключение составляет наиболее обжитая
южная часть Байкала).
Обеспечение автономности по топливу с
возможностью поддержания глиссирующей
крейсерской скорости на всем протяжении
маршрута для посещения любой точки Бай-
кала и возвращения домой — один из самых
важных вопросов. При длине озера 640 км
минимально необходимая дальность хода
на одной заправке должна составлять 1600–
1700 км, а еще лучше — 2000 км (тогда можно
обойти озеро по периметру). У большинства
же глиссирующих моторных яхт зарубежного
производства этот показатель существенно
меньше, в пределах 500–700 км.
Вот почему в разработке «БМБ» заложена
дальность 1550 км при заправке 3400 л (есть
пространство для размещения еще 700 л —
тогда дальность составит 1900 км), а судно
изготовлено из легкого сплава с учетом тре-
бований Речного регистра, с пятью отсеками
непотопляемости, причем не из распростра-
ненного АМг5, а из профилированных пане-
лей сплава 1561 с частым продольным и по-
перечным набором, что удовлетворяет еще и
требованиям ВМФ. А чтобы и этот немалый
запас топлива расходовался рационально и
не мешал двигаться в глиссирующем режиме
даже с полными танками, было решено ис-
пользовать оригинальную разработку, прове-
ренную на скоростных военных судах еще в
советские времена.
О поперечных реданах и воздушной по-
душке наверняка слышали многие, но вот
воздушная (в данном случае — газовая) кавер-
на, в чем-то объединяющая упомянутые гид-
роаэродинамические средства поддержания
судна в режиме глиссирования, больше из-
вестна узким специалистам. Днище в корму
от поперечного редана в данном случае огра-
ничено сходящими на нет бортиками и обра-
зует замкнутую полость — ту самую каверну.
БМБ 20 М
Как мы и предсказывали, импортозамещение в яхтенном секторе начинает развиваться в основном на основе судов
«профессионального» и военного назначения — опыта в этой области, равно как и в соответствующем размерном секторе,
у отечественных судостроителей более чем достаточно, причем многие высокотехнологичные разработки, в свое время
секретные, ведут свою хронологию еще со времен СССР. Новинка, которую мы сейчас представляем, интересна не только
оригинальной концепцией как собственно обводов корпуса, так и самого принципа глиссирования, заимствованного
у скоростных военных судов. Моторная яхта, построенная в Иркутске компанией «БайкалМоторБоат», максимально

2. имеются два П-образных дивана со столом в
открытом кокпите, а на крыше надстройки
— флайбридж с четырехместным диваном и
просторный солнечный лежак. Кают-компа-
ния размещена там, где на «Сайгаке» было
машинное отделение, — в самом комфортном
при килевой качке и движении по волне ме-
сте. Из тех же соображений и рубку с постом
управления немного сдвинули в корму.
Каверна «Сайгака» тоже была изменена:
центральная лыжа и водомет «вырезаны», а
профилировка геометрии выполнена в пол-
ном соответствии с проектом 18610 «Муфлон»
разработки КБ «Редан» (фактически это тот
же «Сайгак», только с частично-погружен-
ным гребным винтом вместо водометов).
В свое время скоростные характеристики
«Муфлона» стали неожиданностью даже для
самих проектантов, а кильватерный след
больше напоминал тот, что оставляет после
себя судно на подводных крыльях — прак-
тически без волнообразования.
«БМБ 20 М» отличает такой же хо-
довой дифферент и столь же лег-
кий ход, как у «Муфлона», причем
при половинной мощности (740
против 1500 л.с. у прототипа) и по-
чти вдвое большем водоизмеще-
нии. По скоростным показателям
новинка сравнима с водометным
1100-сильным «Сайгаком» — бо-
лее 60 км/ч на полном ходу и 45–
48 км/ч на «крейсере» (дальность
хода в этом режиме составила около 1600 км).
Не секрет, что такого успеха удалось до-
биться во многом благодаря талантливым
конструкторам еще советских времен, таким
как Владимир Георгиевич Калюжный, кото-
рый в свое время принимал непосредствен-
ное участие в разработке каверны «Сайгака»
— специалисты «БМБ» выражают ветерану
отечественного судостроения искреннюю
благодарность за консультационную под-
держку, полученную в ходе модернизации
его детища.
Правда, чтобы в полной мере получить
от оригинальной конструкции обводов все
ее возможности в разнообразных волно-
вых условиях, от судоводителя требуется
предварительная настройка дифферента,
которая осуществляется не только углом от-
кидки колонок и интерцепторами (которые
расположены и на транце основного корпуса,
и в носовой части каверны). Если на короткой
высокой волне возникает необходимость еще
сильнее «придавить» нос ради более мягкого
хода, то можно принудительно заполнить во-
дой 450-литровую балластную цистерну, рас-
положенную под носовой каютой. Напомним,
что вода в Байкале пригодна для питья, так
что эта цистерна имеет двойное назначение.
Первые же испытательные выходы убе-
дительно доказали: избранные технические
решения оказались верными, и, что самое
главное, некогда секретная газовая каверна
способна исправно служить и мирным це-
лям. В последующие образцы, конечно, будет
внесен ряд изменений, но в основном косме-
тического плана: увеличится объем тиковой
отделки, будет применена «перламутровая»
окраска корпуса и т. д. В планах и создание
версии с одной большой мастер-каютой в
носу — тогда всего кают будет три, каждая
со своим санузлом. Для компании из шести
человек в дальнем походе — более удобный
вариант. Соответствующие дизайн-проекты
уже проработаны, пожелания заказчиков
тоже будут максимально учтены.
Корму нарастил огромный (3 × 4,3 м) кри-
нолин для размещения RIB’а, рыбалки и про-
чего активного или не очень отдыха. Главная
его особенность в том, что по сути это даже не
кринолин, а продолжение корпуса с собствен-
ными тримаранными обводами, превращаю-
щее транец «Сайгака» во второй поперечный
редан. В носу появился двухметровый пло-
ский бушприт с откидным трапом. Посколь-
ку судно рассчитано на стоянки в основном
у «диких» берегов, достаточно сказать, что
расстояние от точки касания килем грунта до
нижней части трапа составляет 4,5 м, так что
в подавляющем большинстве случаев мож-
но сойти даже на довольно пологий берег, не
замочив ног. Такое же мощное, как и в носу,
якорное устройство позволяет осуществлять
подход к незнакомому берегу по инерции с
поднятыми угловыми колонками; на этом же
якоре можно и оттянуться от берега, не под-
вергая риску гребные винты. Киль и днище в
носовой части, кстати, дополнительно усиле-
ны до толщины 12 мм.
На «Сайгаке», помимо ходовой рубки, име-
лась лишь одна каюта на четыре спальных
места в два яруса. На «БМБ 20» рубка более
чем на метр шире, пять кают, три санузла
и кают-компания с камбузом. Кроме того,
