Research Ethics from an IRB Perspective - Presented by Dr. Heidi Sato & Dr. Stefan Hanson
Understanding the IRB requirements before initiating a research study may be a challenging task. Learn about research ethics from an IRB perspective. In this webinar you will learn:
· What is an IRB and its purpose?
· What requires IRB review and approval?
· What are the different types of IRB review?
· What is the process for submitting an IRB application?
· What criteria must be met for IRB approval?
· What are possible outcomes of an IRB review?
About CORE:
The Culture of Research and Education (C.O.R.E.) webinar series is spearheaded by Dr. Bernice B. Rumala, CORE Chair & Program Director of the Ph.D. in Health Sciences program in collaboration with leaders and faculty across all academic programs.
This innovative and wide-ranging series is designed to provide continuing education, skills-building techniques, and tools for academic and professional development. These sessions will provide a unique chance to build your professional development toolkit through presentations, discussions, and workshops with Trident’s world-class faculty.
For further information about CORE or to present, you may contact Dr. Bernice B. Rumala at Bernice.rumala@trident.edu
This document provides information about SAGES (Student Allies for Growth and Enrichment in STEM), a student group at California State University, East Bay. The group's mission is to assist STEM students through academic support, professional development, and outreach. Members are required to participate in a minimum of three events per quarter and bi-weekly meetings. The group is led by area leaders who coordinate events in three focus areas: professional development, academic support/mentorship, and pre K-12 outreach.
Coco Pops was launched in 1958 as both a cereal and snack bar in America. It was renamed in 2003 and 2006 before returning to Coco Pops in the UK. Its mascots over time included Mr. Jinks in the 1960s and Sweep, with Coco the Monkey introduced in 1963. Its main competitors include Nesquik, Cookie Crisps, and Cheerios. Its target audience is children ages 6+ as its chocolate flavor appeals to them as both a breakfast and snack.

The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise stimulates the production of endorphins in the brain which elevate mood and reduce stress levels.

The document describes a dialogue-based approach for aligning ontologies between agents with incomplete knowledge. It allows agents to exchange correspondences and agree on a final alignment without disclosing their full ontologies. Weights are assigned to correspondences and aggregated based on what each agent knows. The dialogue identifies potential violations and allows repairs by weakening or removing correspondences from the alignment. The approach aims to extend each agent's ontology through the alignment while avoiding changes to the ontology hierarchies due to incomplete knowledge of other agents' ontologies.
The document outlines Step 1 of the Credential Transparency Initiative (CTI), which is to define functional requirements and use cases for a credential registry. It discusses following guidelines for Dublin Core Application Profiles and describes developing a domain model, metadata vocabulary, and syntax guidelines. Examples of use cases for the credential registry include searching for credentials, determining equivalence between credentials, and exploring education and career pathways.
Thomas Kepler is a dedicated technical intelligence analyst with over 28 years of experience in signals analysis and intelligence. He has extensive experience analyzing non-communications signals to determine capabilities and intent. His expertise includes analyzing over 200 datasets per year to discover anomalies and working with software developers to enhance analytical tools. Kepler's accomplishments include providing sole system evaluation and ensuring mission success through training, data validation, and issue reporting.
This document provides an overview of experimental filmmaking. It discusses how experimental filmmakers try new technical or artistic techniques rather than following established conventions. Early experimentation included technologies like Eadweard Muybridge's zoopraxiscope in 1879 and motion picture cameras by Edison, Dickson, and the Lumière Brothers in the 1890s. Georges Méliès was a pioneer of special effects, using techniques like stop motion, multiple exposure, hand coloring, time-lapse, and dissolves. The document contrasts the linear, continuity-based approach of Classical Hollywood cinema with the more experimental approaches that subvert conventions. Students are asked to consider which early special effects technique they'd like to experiment with.
NuGet Kibbles And Bits: Learn How To Build And Publish A NuGet PackageChris Bohatka
Package Managers have become a mainstay in the developer toolbox, and NuGet is a first class citizen in the Microsoft stack. We’re all familiar with how to install, update, and restore a package, but how do we begin crafting our own packages? How we do identify reusable libraries, and more importantly, how do we actually create and publish a package? It’s time to stop consuming and start creating; it’s time to start dogfooding with NuGet. In this session, we will walk through this process, establishing packages for code libraries and front end components, including Tag Helpers.
The document discusses APIs and API-first development. It argues that traditional development processes focus too much on data models and server code before APIs and user interfaces. An API-centric process prioritizes designing APIs and user interfaces first before implementing backend functionality. Well-designed APIs can be implemented later as the "real" backend code, after prototypes are built with "fake" backend code. Everyday APIs like functions and modules define interfaces that are used without being explicitly designed. The document promotes standardizing the documentation of JavaScript functions as APIs.
Victoria Oliva conducted interviews with her mother and father to learn about her family history. For her mother's side, she discovered that her mother was born in California and had 14 siblings, though she was raised primarily by her great-grandmother. Her parents came from California as well. For her father's side, she learned he was born in Tijuana, Mexico and had two siblings. Both of his parents were born in different regions of Mexico. The family originally immigrated to the US for better opportunities and first settled in El Monte, California. Victoria found the interviews insightful but wanted to learn more, especially about absent or unknown family members.

Git Obstacle Course: Stop BASHing your head and break down the basicsChris Bohatka
A world without source control leads to scary stories around the campfire. We all know we should commit early and often, and we’ve been told that Git is the system of choice. Looking at tutorials can be intimidating, though, with terminal commands here and bash commands there. What does it all mean, and how can you use it as a developer, designer, architect or analyst? In this session, we will work through these obstacles to bolster your Git knowledge en route to earning your ‘Git More Done’ Camp Badge.
Surviving the Future with Drought Preparednesstaliean
- St. Lucia experienced a severe drought in 2015, with rainfall levels 33.5 mm below the previous year's levels for May. While annual rainfall has remained consistent, patterns have changed with more days without rain and heavier rainfall.
- The drought officially ended in July but rainfall is predicted to be below normal until October. Water rationing continued as the main water reservoir level remained low.
- Adapting to climate change includes improving water conservation and harvesting practices across sectors like tourism and agriculture which are heavily reliant on consistent water supply. Strengthening legislation and enforcement of water abstraction and management is also needed to prepare for more frequent weather extremes.
