The future LSP: Partnering for innovation
In today's competitive market, LSPs face multiple challenges for future growth. The industry is changing in giant leaps and LSPs are reinventing themselves as Language Solution Partners as sophisticated customers require services in which technology plays a key role. To meet these demands, Nova and <tauyou> have partnered in a collaboration that is developing language solutions with a clear focus on innovation. In this session, we will describe the methodology used to identify, develop and test new products and services, and our initial outcomes. Among these innovations, we will comment on Machine Translation and the development of an API to communicate Nova with the customer’s documentation (CMS, webs, social media, etc.), streamlining processes, lowering administrative burdens and expediting the delivery of services.

With the recent incorporation of a dedicated R&D Department within the company’s organizational structure, Nova Language Services has consolidated its commitment to implementing the latest technology resources in order to innovate and maintain its market position as a Language Services Partner. In 2008, the company began training its first specialised MT engines, and today it is post-editing over 14 million words per year for various sectors, including the medical sector. In this session, Nova will discuss its ongoing quest for improving access to language services, production implementation challenges, the TAUS API and the development of new localization products.

Regulatory Translation of Generic Medication Product Information in the European Union

This presentation will discuss European legislation requirements for generic medication approval and share general considerations on how to proceed when translating product information (SmPC), Patient Information Leaflets (PIL) and labeling. In order to obtain final approval from the European Medicines Agency, translators are required to closely follow previously existing templates, often adapting content with no source text in hand. We will illustrate translation adaptation examples, focusing on the quality control methods applied to ensure compliance, and cover regulatory requirement differences between the United States and Europe.
LSPs are acknowledging that they need to be adaptive and responsive to change, but most struggle to know where to start or where to focus. Nova Language Services has taken a proactive approach to the changing needs of the market through the implementation of specialized MT domains, the creation of a dedicated R&D department and language technology partnerships. Having embarked on processes that have led to important changes in the company’s traditional business model, Nova has bred innovations in pricing strategies and methods to access the new digital market. In this session we will showcase our experiences, share our challenges and leave plenty of room for discussion and questions at the end of our presentation.
