H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Macron
President of the French Republic
Dear President,
Dear Mr. Macron,
We have the honor of writing to you as the leaders of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine.
We were shocked to hear about the decision of the European Union to sanction our friend and
Jewish leader, long-term President of the European Jewish Congress, Dr. Moshe Kantor.
Dr. Moshe Kantor has dedicated his life and activities to the rebirth of Jewish life, culture and
education across Europe, and especially in Eastern Europe. He spared no effort in the fight against anti-
Semitism and for the preservation of the memory of the Holocaust around the world, including in
Ukraine.
The Jewish Confederation of Ukraine has been a proud member of the European Jewish Congress
under Moshe Kantor’s longstanding leadership. We have worked with him over a number of years and
were always able to count on his unwavering support and sensitivity to the issues we have been facing.
We also know of his feeling towards Ukraine, both his mother and father as well as his wife being
Ukrainian and towards the Jewish community, which he has helped tremendously over many years, and
especially since the war broke out.
We are confident that this mistake will be corrected upon review of his file and of the arguments
put forward by his counsel. We call upon you to oppose any renewal of the decision to sanction him, not
only for his sake but also for the sake of Europe’s Jewish communities who lost a trusted and respected
leader.
We thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
Boris Fuchsmann,
Honorary President, Jewish Confederation of Ukraine
Boris Lozhkin,
President, Jewish Confederation of Ukraine
Rabbi Yaakov Dov Bleich, Chief Rabbi of Kiev and Ukraine
Inna Ioffe,
Director, Jewish Confederation of Ukraine
