This document discusses how animals are viewed and treated under the law. It argues that animals are considered property and commodities rather than clients or individuals. As a result, intensive farming systems prioritize profits over animal welfare, subjecting animals to cruel conditions. While animal welfare laws aim to prevent cruelty, exemptions and industry influence allow practices like overbreeding chickens for meat to continue causing harm. The document calls for challenging speciesism and corporate exploitation through grassroots activism.

This document discusses applying a social justice framework to animal law. It addresses how animals are often viewed as property or "things" without rights rather than sentient beings. The framework challenges this dominant paradigm by recognizing animals as individuals with needs and interests. It discusses how principles of equity, recognition, participation and consultation can be applied to animal issues. The document also notes some challenges to prosecuting cruelty when it is done for profit and examines regulatory issues around animal agriculture.

This document discusses the development of CLEAR, a database created by the National Association of Community Legal Centres (NACLC) to share information about community legal education, law reform and advocacy projects undertaken by community legal centres and related organizations. It outlines how NACLC received initial funding in 2008 to develop coordination mechanisms for this work. A report in 2009 identified a lack of systems for sharing information between centres. In 2010, NACLC received funding to employ a project worker to develop the CLEAR database, which launched in 2011 with 180 initial projects. Since then, over 270 projects have been contributed by 68 organizations. The database aims to reduce unnecessary duplication of work and promote information sharing across the sector.
