Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

2. 고조선의 건국신화
환 웅이 3000명과 비와 바람을 가지고 태백산 아래로 내려왔다. 환웅은 태백산
아래로 내려와서 백성 들을 다스리고 있었다. 그런데 어느 날 곰과 호랑이가 와서 인
간이 되게 해달라고 환웅에게 빌자 환웅은 쑥과 마늘을 가지고 동굴에서 햇빛을 받
지 않고 있으라고 했다. 그런데 21일이 지나자 호랑이는 더 이상 못 참아 내서 인간
이 되는 것을 포기하고 동굴을 나갔다. 하지만 곰은 끝까지 참아내서 인간이 되어 여
자가 되었다. 하지만 사람들이 그녀를 항상 피해 다니자 환웅은 그녀의 이름을 웅녀
라고 짓고 결혼을 하였다. 결혼한 후 웅녀는 아기를 낳았는데 그 아기는 건강하게 자
라서 이름을 단군왕검이라고 했고 사람들을 다스리기 시작하여 그는 나라를 건국했
는데 바로 고조선이라는 나라를 건국했다. 그리고 단군은 나라를 다스리면서 나라
안에서 못된 사람들이 있어서 많은 사람들이 고통을 받고 있었다. 그래서 단군왕검
은 8조법 을 만들어서 그 이후에는 많은 백성들이 평화롭게 지낼 수 있었다. 그 이후
단군왕검은 1904년 동안 살다가 산신이 되었다고 한다.
3. 고조선의 멸망과 고조선 이후의 국가들
고조선이 멸망하고 세로운 국가들이 나타
1. 해모수가 났다. 이 국가들은 서로 다르게 경쟁하며
부여를 건국함 성장했다.

4. 백제의 건국신화
주몽이 고구려를 건국한지 20년이 되었다. 그 동안 아들인 온조 와 비류
를 키우며 살다가 첫째 아들인 유리가 졸본 으로 찾아오자 주몽은 유리를
고구려 왕으로 삼고 온조와 비류는 세로운 나라를 건국하기 위하여 남쪽
으로 내려갔다. 그러다가 위례성(서울)에 십제라는 나라를 세웠다. 하지만
비류는 마추홀(인천)에 나라를 세웠다. 그런데 비류가 세운 나라는 바다는
있지만 습기가 많고 땅이 거칠어서 농사를 짓기 힘들었다. 결국 비류는 후
회 하면서 살다가 죽었다. 그 이후 비류가 세운 나라에서 살은 백성들은 모
두 십제로 갔다. 온조는 비류의 나라에서 온 사람들이 많자 온조는 나라이
름을 백제로 했다. 온조는 백성들이 농사를 잘 짓고, 행복하게 살자 많은
사람들이 백제로 내려왔다. 그 이후 백제는 690년이라는 아주 긴 역사를
가지고 살았다.
9. 신라 건국신화
진한에 살고 있는 많은 족장들이 누가 나라를 다스려야 할지
몰라서 어떻게 할 수 없었다. 그런데 어느 날 갑자기 나정 에
서 천마가 갑자기 알을 낳고 가더니 천마는 달을 향해 하늘로
올라가고 알을 낳고 갔다. 그런데 그 알에는 아기가 있었다.
그 아기는 자라서 왕이 되었다. 그리고 왕이 되어서 나라의
이름을 신라로 바꾸고 서라벌(경주)에 신라를 건국한다.그런
데 태어나고 몇년 뒤에 알연 우물에서 용이 나오더니 알을 낳
고 어디론가 사라졌다. 그 알에서도 역시 인간이 나왔다. 이
것을 발견한 할머니는 알영 이라는 이름을 짓고 길러서 헉거
세 에게 보여주자 헉거세는 깜짝 놀라서 알연 과 결혼하게 된
다. 그 뒤로는 알연과 함께 나라를 다스리면서 헉거세는 백
성들 에게 농사를 짓는 방법을 가르쳐 주고 알연 은 백성들에
게 옷을 짜는 방법을 알려준다. 헉거세와 알연은 62년 동안
행복하게 신라를 다스렸다.
10. 신라의 수도(금성)

신라의 수도 금성은 신라가 건국이 되었을 때 부터 멸망에 이르
기 까지 수도가 금성 이여서 1000년 동안 신라의 수도 였다.
13. 고구려 건국신화
기 원전 108년 고조선이 멸망하고 해모수가 부여라는 나라를 새우고 그의 아들인 금
와왕 은 아들이 7명이 있었는데 금와왕 에게 새로운 왕의 자리를 가지려고 형제들은 알에
서 태어나고 힘이 세고 활을 잘 쏘는 주몽을 죽이려고 하자 주몽은 도망을 갔다. 그래서
부여에 나가려고 하는데 금와왕 과 아들들이 바짝 뛰어오고 있는데 주몽에게 앞에 큰 강
이 가로막고 있자 주몽은 물고기들에게 길을 내어달라고 하자 물고기들은 길을 비켜주었
다. 그리고 압록강 앞에 있는 졸본 에서 나라를 고구려 라고 지었다. 나라를 건국할 당시
에는 땅이 아주 작은 나라였다. 압록강 건너에 있는 작은 국가에 가서 “저는 천제의 자손
주몽 이라고 합니다.” 라고 하자 그 나라의 왕이 한번 활을 쏴 보라고 해서 주몽은 완벽한
명중을 해서 그 왕은 너무 감탄해서 주몽에게 자신이 가지고 있는 땅을 다 주몽에게 주었
다. 그런데 부여 에다가 부인인 예 씨 부인 을 놓고 갔는데 그녀의 아들인 유리는 불쌍하
게 자라서 아버지를 만나고 싶어서 예 씨 부인에게 칼 조각을 받아서 졸본 으로 가서 주몽
에게 칼 조각을 맞추려고 하는데 딱 맞아서 주몽은 이렇게 와준 유리가 너무 고마워서 왕
의 자리를 물러주고 40세의 나이로 세상을 떠난다.

근초고왕~아신왕
백제 전성기
25. 근초고왕
346년,백제 왕궁에서는 근초고왕의 즉위식이 열렸다.근초고왕은
작은 백제의 땅을 보며 너무 안타까워 했다. 그래서 근초고왕은 일
단 왜나라 와 친하게 지내서 같이 힘을 모았다. 먼저 근초고왕은
고구려 보다 힘을 키우려고 마한으로 가서 마한을 멸망했다. 드디
어 백제는 마한을 차지하고 고구려를 치러갔다. 당시 고구려는 고
국원왕 이 나라를 다스리고 있었다.369년 고국원왕 은 백제를 치
려고 2만 대군을 이끌고 왔다. 하지만 백제는 지름길을 알기 때문
에 지름길을 통해 고구려의 침입만 막은 것이 아니고 수곡성 까지
함락시켰다. 하지만 근초고왕은 더 북쪽으로 나가기 시작했다.
371년 근초고왕은 평양성 으로 가서 고국원왕 을 죽였다. 그 이
후 백마산성 까지 이르기 까지 엄청난 영토를 차지한 근초고왕, 그
는 대 백제 의 꿈을 이룬 것 같다.

27. 광개토대왕
3 91년 광개토대왕은 담덕이라는 이름으로 왕이 되었다. 담덕은 392년에
평양성과 수곡까지 되찾았다. 그리고 근초고왕 때 잃어버린 성을 되찾았다.
394년,후연이라는 나라의 왕인 모용수가 요동성에 침략했다고 하자 담덕은
요동성을 지키러 가는데 크게 성공했고, 요양성까지 함락 시켰다.396년에는
할아버지인 고국원왕 을 죽인 원수를 갚으러 관미성 을 차지하고 호로고로성
까지 빼앗았다. 그런데 백제의 아신왕 이 관미성 을 되찾으려고 했다. 하지만
끝내 관미성 을 되찾지 못하고 항복을 했다. 397년에는 비려 를 멸망시키고
말갈과 동맹을 맺었다. 후연은 고구려가 세다는 것을 알고 3년 동안 전쟁을
멈추기로 하고 평화를 유지했다. 400년, 갑자기 왜나라 가 바다를 건너서 신
라를 차지하려고 왜나라 수장인 소아천 장군과 많은 대군들이 신라를 공격하
고 고구려를 치려고 했다. 하지만 이것이 담덕 에게 들키자 결국 후퇴를 하였
다. 담덕은 왜나라 본거지까지 가서 소아천 장군을 직접 살해를 하였고. 이
일을 해낸 부여홍 에게 벼슬을 내어주었다. 그 동안 후연은 신성과 남소성을
함락시키자 담덕은 후연을 혼내주고 숙군성 을 함락시키고 북위와 동맹을 맺
어서 후연을 멸망 시켰다. 광개토대왕은 이 많은 업적을 남기고 세상을 떠났
다
후연: 연나라 선비 모용수가 세우고 그의
아들 모용희 때 멸망한다.(385~409)25년
28. 장수왕
413년, 광개토대왕이 죽고 그의 아들 인 장수왕이 왕이 되었
다.장수왕은 아버지가 돌아가 신지 1년이 되자 광개토왕등비를
세웠다.장수왕은 북위와 전쟁을 하면 위험해 질것 같아서 한강
을 가져 갈려고 했다. 그러기 위해서 수도를 남쪽에 있는 평양
성 으로 도읍을 옮겼다. 먼저 백제와 전쟁을 하였다. 백제는 점
점 전쟁에 지고 있어서 비유왕 은 신라와 나제동맹 을 맺자고
하였다. 장수왕은 꾀로 백제를 골려 주려고 담징을 백제의 개로
왕 에게 보내고 같이 바둑을 하면서 백제의 모습을 다 파악하라
고 했다. 개로왕 은 담징을 환영했고 기미를 다 말해주었다. 담
징은 장수왕에게 다 말하고 3만 대군을 이끌고 위례성으로 쳐들
어 갔다. 475년 결국 개로왕 은 병사의 칼에 맞아 죽었고 문주
는 빨리 웅진 으로 도망을 갔다. 장수왕은 신라까지 공격한 다
음에 중원 고구려 비를 세웠다. 훌륭한 아버지의 곁에서 태어나
아주 넓은 영토를 가진 장수왕, 그 이름대로 장수왕은 98세까지
살고,79년 동안 고구려를 다스린 훌륭한 왕이다.
29. 신라 전성기(진흥왕)

30. 진흥왕
신라에서 540년 법흥왕 이 죽자 진흥왕은 왕이 되었다. 진흥왕은 7살의 나이
로 신라의 왕이 되었지만 어머니인 지소 부인이 진흥왕을 가르치거나 신라를
다스렸다.548년 백제에서는 고구려의 대군들이 쳐들어 와서 백제의 성왕은 신
라에게 사신을 보내서 도움을 요청하였다. 사실은 433년에 백제는 고구려에게
큰 침략을 받아서 신라에게 동맹을 하자고 한 것이다. 550년에는 진흥왕이 백
제의 성왕과 동맹을 깨서 진흥왕은 한강을 향해 갔다. 백제를 공격해서 금현성
과 도달성 을 함락시키고 한강 동남부 지역을 차지하였다.성왕은 화가 나서 공
격을 했지만 번번히 실패를 하였다.진흥왕은 관산성 공격을 계획을 세워서 공
격을 하는데 백제는 이 전쟁에서 성왕이 죽고 말았다. 진흥왕은 성왕을 죽여서
너무 슬퍼 말을 하지 못하고 “성왕, 그대는 참 멋진 왕이었소”.라고 남겼다.555
년,진흥왕은 고구려와 싸우겠다고 했다.북한산에 북한산비를 세우고 강원도 일
대를 너머서 함경도 까지 진출해서 미운령비를 세웠다.진흥왕은 백제와 고구려
와 전쟁을 해서 3배가 넘는 영토를 진출하게 되었다.
