Space junk refers to defunct human-made objects in space such as nonfunctional satellites, spent rocket stages, and fragmentation debris. There are over 1 million pieces of space junk orbiting Earth above 2000 km, ranging in size from 1 cm to 10 cm. These objects travel at speeds up to 28,000 km/h, posing a collision threat to operational satellites and spacecraft.
