Unconventional research in USSR and Russia: short overview by Serge Kernbach
This work briefly surveys unconventional research in Russia from the end of the 19th until the beginning of the 21th centuries in areas related to generation and detection of a ’high- penetrating’ emission of non-biological origin. The overview is based on open scientific and journalistic materials. The unique character of this research and its history, originating from gov- ernmental programs of the USSR, is shown. Relations to modern studies on biological effects of weak electromagnetic emission, several areas of bioinformatics and theories of physical vacuum are discussed.
TYPES OF SMOKING BEHAVIOR AND PERSONAL QUALITIES OF YOUNG WOMEN WITH HIGHER E...
The article discusses the issue of women’s smoking; reasons for the formation of
this habit are noted; it is stated that the number of smoking women as well as the
number of women who want to quit smoking is increasing, but effective ways of
getting rid of tabagism have not been worked out yet (only about 35% of Russian
women have achieved this goal as compared with the number of women who decided
to stop smoking,). The empirical research findings about the links of the types of
smoking behavior and personal qualities of women with higher education are
presented (the sample involved 180 women aged 21-39 years – 48 university
employees and 132 women, Master’s students). In particular, the article presents the
results of the test by D. Horn, showing that the most pronounced types of women’s
smoking behavior are “support” and “relaxation” and the less represented type is the
“reflex”. The results of the test of the individual orientation by B. Bass are given,
revealing that female smokers are to a larger extent focusing on the task and less

3- Destinar un presupuesto específico para actuaciones contra la violencia de género
4- Duplicar el personal existente en la oficina de intermediación para familias desahuciadas
5- Iniciar el procedimiento para municipalizar Limasa
6-Poner en marcha un plan de choque de limpieza en los barrios mientras se reorganiza la empresa de limpieza.

10- Negociar con la Sareb, conocida como ‘el banco malo’, la recuperación de los terrenos de Repsol para crear un gran parque público
11- Contactar con el Consejo Social de la Ciudad para, aprovechando las obras del metro hasta el Centro, promover la peatonalización completa de la Alameda Principal buscando la colaboración de otras administraciones.
12-Acometer la recuperación del tramo urbano del río Guadalmedina partiendo del proyecto ganador del concurso de ideas celebrado hace dos años.
13- Paralizar la revisión del Plan Especial del Centro Histórico (Pepri) para convocar el mayor consenso y participación posible bajo la premisa de que el casco antiguo, además de un referente turístico, “también debe ser habitable y mantener su singularidad”.
14- Instar a las administraciones competentes a retirar la actual concesión de los Baños del Carmen y sacarla a concurso “sin olvidar la creación de un parque con financiación pública”.
15- Derribo de los edificios de los antiguos cines Astoria y Victoria y convocar un concurso de ideas para decidir el uso de esta manzana.
16- Elaboración de un estudio sobre todo el patrimonio público municipal, entre solares y edificios.
17- Revisión de todos los contratos y concesiones para negociar con sus adjudicatarios mejorar las condiciones laborales de sus empleados.

Authors' Introduction
The study of culture and mental health is an interdisciplinary endeavor with a long history, but psychology has only been fitfully involved with the ongoing conversation. Cultural psychiatry, by contrast, represents a decades‐long interdisciplinary endeavor primarily involving psychiatrists and anthropologists. One problem is that the anthropological view of culture, not as independent variable but as deep context, has been unfamiliar to psychologists until relatively recently. Although anthropological views have influenced researchers in cultural psychology, at times profoundly, collaborations between cultural and clinical psychologists remain uncommon.
Our paper in Social and Personality Psychology Compass describes one way of thinking about how cultural psychology and clinical psychology might be integrated, to the mutual benefit of both disciplines. We advocate a psychological approach to culture and mental health that goes beyond simply stating that ‘culture matters’, hoping to go beyond descriptions of group differences to an exploration of the processes by which cultural context shapes health and well‐being. Ideally, the emerging discipline combines the strengths of cultural psychology and clinical psychology, drawing on the theories, methodologies, and empirical literatures of both.
Indeed, in many ways, cultural–clinical psychology is not new. Psychologists have conducted research on culture and mental health for decades, and we draw on this work extensively in describing our approach. Nonetheless, the specific integration of cultural and clinical psychology is just beginning to emerge as an organized field of study. This teaching and learning guide includes some current work in this field, but emphasizes the various contributions that have shaped our view of what cultural–clinical psychology might become.
Most of the resources listed here draw from long‐established disciplines that have contributed to cultural–clinical psychology: cultural, cross‐cultural, and multicultural psychology; cultural psychiatry; and medical anthropology. Regardless of theoretical perspective or specific content, o.

Abstract
Background:
Responding to the IASP Conference theme of “Conflicts, Culture and Social Wellness,” the author proposes Social Psychiatry’s role in promoting belonging and unity (Di Nicola 2013, 2018). Drawing on the history of Social Psychiatry (SP) and Cultural Psychiatry (CP), the author offers a schema of the distinguishing features and identity of each branch of psychiatry (Antić, 2021; Di Nicola, 2019).
Issues:
Are the histories and current practices of CP and SP mutually compatible and enriching or are they hiving off into separate domains?
Proposition:
A schema will be presented for differentiating underlying assumptions and core features of these two allied but increasingly differentiated fields of psychiatry. Key domains include: core arguments/dynamics (CP’s critiques of Western psychiatry lead to negation of its claim to universality; SP’s documentation of social determinants of health (SDH/MH) affords the affirmation of SDH/MH across societies and over time); categories (CP addresses race and ethnicity; SP investigates class and social structure); allied fields (CP – medical anthropology; SP – medical sociology, epidemiology & public health); metaphors (CP – “prism”/refracting; horizontal approach, “across cultures”; SP – “creolization”/blending; vertical approach, layers of “social strata”); values (CP - diversity/equity; SP – unity/solidarity); research (CP - ethnographies, CFI; SP - epidemiology, SDH/MH); allied professional movements/outgrowths (CP - Global Mental Health; SP - community psychiatry); allied populist movements (CP – “Black Lives Matter” in the USA; SP – “Gilets jaunes” in France); and, critiques (CP/GMH - eg, China Mills; SP – “southern epistemologies,” the Global South; Di Nicola, 2020).
Outcomes:
Cumulative results of the two allied traditions, sometimes practiced by the same/overlapping clinical and research teams, are discussed under the rubric “centripetal” (unifying, integrating) versus “centrifugal” (separating, dispersing) impacts.
Implications:
The disparate methods and results of CP vs. SP reflect the diverse foundational discourses of these increasingly differentiated fields. CP has morphed into a study of Dostoyevski’s “the insulted and the injured” imbued with a liberal, progressive ideology, culminating in identity politics. Meanwhile, social class, the signal critical tool of everything social, from sociology to socialism and SP, is being supplanted by a focus on culture. The author solicits a debate on what this means for the future of CP & SP and whether a synthesis is still possible. As for SP, the author proposes that with its centripetal unifying and integrating practices, SP promotes belonging and unity in mental health care and in social theory ( Di Nicola, 2019).

Sixty-four individuals with social phobia (social anxiety disorder) were assigned to a multimodal
cognitive– behavioral treatment package or to a waiting list control group. Treatment consisted of a
9-week, Internet-delivered, self-help program that was combined with 2 group exposure sessions in real
life and minimal therapist contact via e-mail. Results were analyzed on an intention-to-treat basis,
including all randomized participants. From pre- to posttest, treated participants in contrast to controls
showed significant improvement on most measured dimensions (social anxiety scales, general anxiety
and depression levels, quality of life). The overall within- and between-groups effect sizes were Cohen’s
d � 0.87 and 0.70, respectively. Treatment gains were maintained at 1-year follow-up. The results from
this study support the continued use and development of Internet-distributed, self-help programs for
people diagnosed with social phobia.

Social phobia (also known as social anxiety disorder) is asso-
ciated with substantial impairment in quality of life (Safren, Heim-
berg, Brown, & Holle, 1997) and is highly prevalent (Furmark,
2002). As evidenced by several trials, there are effective psycho-
social treatments for social phobia (Heimberg, 2001). However, far
from all sufferers seek treatment (Baldwin & Buis, 2004). Barriers
to accessing expert assistance include shortage of skilled thera-
pists, long waiting lists, and costs. These barriers particularly
disadvantage geographically isolated people, such as those in
regional and rural areas where traveling time is an added burden.
Another problem is that those with generalized social phobia may
not seek therapy because of the fear or embarrassment associated
with help seeking (Newman, Erickson, Przeworski, & Dzus,
2003). Therefore, a major challenge is to increase the accessibility
and affordability of evidence-based psychological treatments for
social phobia.
Printed self-help manuals have been developed to assist people
with mental health problems who are unwilling or unable to access
professional assistance, although there has been little evaluation of
their efficacy (Rosen, Glasgow, & Moore, 2003). A modern alter-
native to printed self-help manuals is computers (Proudfoot, 2004).

In many realms of medicine, objective diagnoses can be made: A clavicula is broken. An infection is present. TSH levels meet the diagnostic criteria for hypothyroidism. Psychiatry, on the other hand, deals with psychological phenomena and behaviors. Can these, too, be “defined objectively and by scientific criteria (Gergen, 1985), or are they social constructions?” (Sadock et al., 2015).
Thanks to myriad advances during recent decades, we know that psychopathology is caused by many interacting factors. Theoretical and clinical contributions to the field have come from the neural sciences, genetics, psychology, and social-cultural sciences. How do these factors impact the expression, classification, diagnosis, and prevalence of psychopathology, and why might it be important for a nurse practitioner to take a multidimensional, integrative approach?

Week 1: History and Theories of Psychopathology
The history of the diagnosis of mental disorders is fraught with examples of how cultural norms and prejudices interfere with and warp a diagnosis. The result is that normal behavior and orientations have been pathologized as an illness or disease. An example of this would be the story of Alan Turing, the famous British computer scientist of the 20th century, who was instrumental in inventing modern computers and deciphering German code in World War II. He was convicted in 1952 in England of gross indecency for being gay. Turing was forced by the courts to undergo 12 months of hormone therapy and could no longer work for the British government. At the time, homosexuality was pathologized as a mental disorder in the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
and was criminalized in most Western countries. It was not until 1973 that the American Psychiatric Association (APA) finally removed homosexuality from the

Nowadays 450 million of people in the world have mental and neurological diseases and behavioural disorders. A quarter of all people who are connected with the health car services require assistance in the area of mental health. Four out of six most frequent reasons of disablement are connected with neuropsychic diseases (depression, alcoholism, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders). In a quarter of families some family member has a mental disease. About 873 000 people each year commit a suicide. These data proves the topicality of the problem of mental disorders worldwide, and each country tries to search for their solutions. One of the recommendations of the World Health Organization for improvement of the situation in the area of mental health is to develop mental health enforcement policy in each country. Such a plan is only for 59.5 % of the world and 67.3 % of the European countries. Unfortunately Latvia is not among those countries, which contrary to the recommendations of the World Health Organization have not enforced a policy in the area of mental health, and this makes this scientific paper topical.
After regaining of independence, Latvia during the last 15 years both politically and economically was subject to material changes and over a short period of time is trying to find the most correct way of development. These changes impact all areas of economics, also medicine and psychiatry. Growth of other branches of medicine is connected mainly with development of science and introduction of new technologies in diagnostics and treatment, whereas in psychiatry larger attention is paid to social and economic situation, approach of the state to certain problems and opinion regarding the methods of its solution.
Different countries, which are in the transitional stage from the totalitarian regime to a democratic society, are looking for their way of development in psychiatry, and each of them is unique and specific.

Past studies of the expression of depression in people of Asian descent have not considered whether
observed ethnic differences in somatization or psychologization are a function of differences in the
expression of the disorder or of group differences in the degree of depressive symptomatology. In the
present study, we carried out �2 and Item Response Theory (IRT) analyses to examine ethnic differences
in symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder in a nationally representative community sample of nonin-
stitutionalized Asian Americans (n � 310) and European Americans (n � 1,763). IRT analyses were
included because they can help discern whether there are differences in the expression of depressive
symptoms, regardless of ethnic differences in the degree of depressive symptomatology. In general,
although we found that Asian Americans have lower rates of depression than European Americans, when
examining specific symptoms, there were more similarities (i.e., symptoms with no ethnic differences)
than differences. An examination of the differences using both �2 and IRT analyses revealed that when
there were differences, Asian Americans were less likely to endorse specific somatic and psychological
symptoms than European Americans, even when matched in degree of depressive symptomatology.
Together, these community-based findings indicate that depression among Asian Americans is more
similar than different to that of European Americans. When differences do occur, they are not an artifact
of the degree of depressive symptomatology but instead a true difference in the expression of the
disorder, specifically a lesser likelihood of expressing specific somatic and psychological symptoms in
Asian Americans compared with European Americans.

It is a commonly held notion by anthropologists and psycholo-
gists that mood disorders are embedded in Western culture and
may not apply as well to people of non-Western cultural back-
grounds (e.g., Kleinman, 1988; Ryder et al., 2008). The Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Fifth Edition (DSM-5;
American Psychiatric Association, 2013) states that “culture pro-
vides interpretive frameworks that shape the experience and ex-
pression of the symptoms, signs, and behaviors that are criteria for
diagnosis” (p. 14). In support of this, past research has demon-
strated that participants of Asian background are more likely than
participants of European background to express depression in
somatic terms (Yen, Robins, & Lin, 2000; Yeung & Chang, 2002).
Examples of somatic symptoms include fatigue, gastrointestinal

ABSTRACT
Suicide is experienced in all parts of parts of the world. Even though it has been argued that suicide is common amongst the elderly in the society, it is worth noting that even children as young as 13 years old have committed suicide. The myths and misconceptions surrounding suicidal individuals are inherently different from one culture to another. For instance, in some cultures it is believed that suicidal individuals are possessed by demons. Other cultures attribute suicide to generational curses whereas other cultures attribute suicide to such factors as depression and other mental disorders. The purpose of the proposed research is to establish the risk factors of suicide and realize possible strategies which if undertaken can help to counteract suicide and hence its adverse effects in the society. In this proposal are the points to be addressed in the course of the research. It is anticipated that there will be objections to the factors to be established and hence part of this proposal are possible objections and how each of the possible objections will be addressed. The research will use secondary sources of information and hence part of this proposal is an annotated bibliography of the sources that will be utilized in course of the research. Suicide has negatively affected the society, and unless there are mitigation strategies to curb this menace, it will continue to take the lives of many people in the society.
EXPLANATION
Suicide is the act of human beings voluntarily taking their lives. Research has shown that it has always been caused by a sense of despair or hopelessness. All these issues may be induced by mental illness which may include Bipolar disorder or even depression. Suicide has been traumatizing and shameful to the bereaved families and many people in the society have always viewed it as a cowardice way of taking one’s life. Author (s) can submit: Research Paper, Conceptual Paper, Case Studies and Book Review. The current issue of JSDS consists of papers of scholars from Malaysia, Indonesia, Nigeria and Pakistan. Political communication, economic community, human development index, economic inequality, payment systems & money laundering, government spending & per capita income, branding social marketing services & criminal recidivism were some of the major practices and concepts examined in these studies. Journal received research submission related to all aspects of major themes and tracks. All the submitted papers were first assessed by the editorial team for relevance and originality of the work and blindly peer reviewed by the external reviewers depending on the subject matter of the paper. After the rigorous peer-review process, the submitted papers were selected based on originality, significance, and clarity of the purpose. Based on the feedback you received on your submission from last week, submit a revised draft of your paper with this additional information:
1. Five additional references that could be used for your research paper and include a 1-2 sentence description for each of the five additional references, explaining how they fit with the research topic and the research question proposed. Make sure that these references come from scholarly sources using Argosy's library resources.
2. A very detailed outline of what you would like to cover in the intro/lit review of your paper. Write it as an outline and think about what you want each paragraph or section to cover. Paste your references into each section where the information from that article applies to the topic. Below is an example of the outline although the references have not been pasted in yet:
a. Introduction or Statement of the Problem (e.g. Predictors of Depression in Men)
i. Research question (E.g. What factors predict depression in men? For example, age, marital status, family history, stressors).
ii. Why is it important/implications (E.g. xx% of men are depressed; less likely to seek treatment; if we can identify who is at risk, may be able to direct them to treatment sooner)
iii. Revised hypothesis based on feedback from the instructor
b. Review of the Literature (the following is an example for above topic):
i. Brief description of depression, symptoms, and any unique symptoms for men (Cite articles from which you will obtain this information).
ii. How widespread is it? Stats on depression in general but also stats on depression in men (Cite articles from which you will obtain this information).
iii. List factors that put men at risk for depression (Cite articles).
1. Difficulty communicating distress or sadness (Cite articles).
2. Job/work pressures (Cite articles).
iv. Demographic characteristics (Cite articles).
1. Relationship between age and depression (Cite articles).
2. Relationship between marital status and depression (Cite articles).
3. A 1-2 page description of the sample you would like to use for your study, that provides the answer to the following questions:
a. What sampling technique would you use?
b. Does the sample generalize to the population? Explain why or why not.
c. What inclusion criteria would be used? What exclusion criteria would be used, if any?
d. What ethical issues might be encountered when collecting your information from this sample?
4. Be sure to also submit all your ten references (the five from last week and the five new ones you added) in an APA-style reference page.
