Sarvodaya, a Sri Lankan NGO, implemented solid waste management programs in 25 schools and 5 communities in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. [1] They conducted awareness programs that educated school children and communities on separating waste and the problems of unmanaged solid waste. [2] This helped identify issues, supply garbage bins, and encourage composting and recycling. [3] The programs reduced the solid waste burden on local authorities and provided models for other areas to follow.
