This document discusses how social media was used during Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Over 20 million tweets were posted about the storm, along with 800,000 photos tagged with "#Sandy" on Instagram. Government agencies and businesses used social media as citizen journalists shared over 10 images per second during the height of the storm. The document then provides a timeline of how the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants used social media and other communications strategies pre-storm, during the storm when their offices lost power, and in the post-storm recovery period to provide updates on event cancellations and other information to members.
