1) This reflection discusses how when one dies, wealth, fame, and accomplishments will no longer matter, but rather how one lived their life and the positive impact they had on others.
2) What will truly matter is not what was acquired but what was given, one's character over competence, and the memories others have of that person rather than one's own memories.
3) Living a life that matters is a matter of choice through making mindful decisions each day to lead a virtuous life, help others in need, cultivate wisdom, and spread kindness for the benefit of all beings.
I put this presentation together upon leaving my previous post at Socialize.
My managing director had asked me if I could recap the top lessons I learned throughout my four-year journey with Socialize and share them with my colleagues.
Joining Socialize was a turning point in my life and has helped me take my skill set to the next level. This fruitful experience had helped me, in no small part, to score my job at Spotify, a brand that I have always believed in and aspired to join one day.
But more importantly, I concluded my socialize journey with many lessons which I hope they'd be as inspiring to you.

2. Ready or not,
someday it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises,
no minutes, hours or days.
All the things you collected,
whether treasured or forgotten,
will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame and temporal power,
will shrivel to irrelevance.
2
3. It will not matter
what you owned,
or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments,
frustrations,
and jealousies
will finally disappear.
So, too, your hopes,
ambitions, plans,
and to-do lists will expire.
3
4. The wins and losses
that once seemed so important
will fade away.
It won't matter whether
you were beautiful or brilliant.
In the end it won't matter
where you came from,
or on which side of the track you lived.
4
5. Even your gender
and skin colour
will be irrelevant.
Then, how will the
value of your days
be measured?
So, what will
matter?
5
6. What will matter is not what you bought,
but what you built;
not what you got, but what you gave.
What will matter is not your success,
but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned,
but what you taught.
6
7. What will matter
is every act of integrity,
compassion, courage or sacrifice
that enriched,
empowered or encouraged others
to emulate your example.
7
8. What will matter
is not your competence,
but your character.
What will matter is not
how many people you knew,
but how many will feel
a lasting loss when you're gone.
8
9. What will matter is not your memories,
but the memories that live
in those who loved you.
What will matter is how long
you will be remembered,
by whom and for what.
9
10. Living a life that matters
doesn't happen by accident;
it's not a matter of circumstance
but of choice;
and of much patience,
perseverance, & determination.
10
11. So Reflecting mindfully and wisely,
LET US
• lead a righteous life
• reach out to others in need
• cultivate and purify the mind
• strive diligently in the Dhamma
• help spread the Dhamma for
the benefit and happiness of all
11
12. The End
May All
Be Well,
Happy And
Peaceful
With Metta,
Bro. Oh Teik Bin
