‘So what?’ was the question posed to around 1,64,680 students in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu in a unique one-day self development programme conducted by the Junior Chamber International India on Monday titled ‘SHINE’- Self Help Initiative for New Empowerment. Titled SHINE after Shine Baskaran, JCI World President. The expansion to SHINE was given by Professor R Panchanadhan, the programme course-designer Professor R. Panchanadhan, The programme centred around a series of questions which students had to answer, with the main question being ‘so what?’. “Think positively about the question so what?”, said Mr. Panchanadhan to 800+ students at the Vivekanandha Higher Secondary School, where the Programme was inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Govt of Puducherry..
The training programme was named SHINE after the world president of Junior Chamber International, Shine T. Baskaran. Junior Chamber International is an NGO which is involved in youth service.
The programme’s uniqueness lay in the fact that it simultaneously reached a large number of students of Class 11 and 12 and college students in 200 institutions in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. Of this, 80 institutions were colleges. The day-long course was taught by 350 trainers who came from different regions in South India.
It also reached many government schools in rural areas, he said. The programme was also attended by a representative of the ASSIST World Records Research Foundation for a possible entry into its records.
1,65,872 students through 450+ institutions [including 80 colleges] in seven districts of Tamilnadu + Pondicherry through 350+ trainers from Tamilnadu, Pondicherry, Andhra, Karnataka and Kerala - all conducting the same course "So What ...?" on one day - 5 Aug 2014 getting recognised as a world record
