People continue to flock to Floridaโs major metro areas

โข Comparing migration to metro areas with at least 500,000 residents, all of Floridaโs major metro areas rank within
the top 15, led by Tampa Bay, which saw an influx of 52,200 new residents. That figure is still fairly short of the
77,500 new residents to the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area and the 73,000 migrants to Greater Phoenix.
โข The Sunshine State differs significantly compared to the other metro areas, particularly those in the South with
the exception of Houston. Over 91.0 percent of net migration to these Florida metros came internationally
compared to 51.0 percent for the overall set.
โข In fact, these four Florida metros account for over 15.0 percent of all international migration to the United States
and South Florida ranks second among all metro areas with over 92,000 international migrants. The metro area is
entirely reliant on international migration for positive net migration figures, as over 58,000 residents emigrated to
other areas of the country.
โข We expect this trend to continue, as residents move from high cost states to lower cost states in the South. In fact,
these 15 metros, most of which are in the Sunbelt, account for 62.1 percent of all net new migration in the U.S.
