SINO IRON PROJECT
The massiv e Sino Iron project has been dev eloped at Cape Preston, 100 kilometres south west of Karratha in Western Australia's Pilbara region.
It is the largest magnetite mining and processing operation in Australia f ocused on deliv ering a world class magnetite iron ore dev elopment which
will add v alue to the Western Australian economy through signif icant downstream processing, employ ment, community benef its and international
technology transf er while balancing social and env ironmental considerations.
The project is one of China's largest inv estments into the Australian resources sector and is owned by Hong Kong-based CITIC
Limited. Production of magnetite concentrate started in late 2012 and the f irst shipment was sent to China in 2013.
PROJECT QUICK FACTS
 At peak construction 4,000 people were employ ed building the project. In f ull operation there will be more than 1000 permanent positions.
 Australia and China will enjoy mutual wide-ranging benef its f rom the Sino Iron project including long-term economic, social and community
div idends.
 The Sino Iron Project will generate around $111 billion in direct rev enue to the Australia economy , and $5.5 billion in roy alties f or Western
Australia.
