2. Introduction
• At The Center for Counseling and Health Resources, also
referred to as A Place of Hope, founder Dr. Gregg Jantz
offers treatment for chemical dependency and other
mental health problems. Dr. Gregg Jantz comes to this
role as a certified chemical dependency counselor.
Chemical dependency prompts a number of behavioral
changes in people, not the least of which is secrecy.
Those who have become dependent on addictive
substances have a tendency to isolate themselves. They
may avoid loved ones, lie about their behavior, and
attempt to hide their use of drugs or alcohol.
3. Addiction
• Such actions may lead family members or friends to
suspect chemical dependency, particularly if the
individual in question is also showing a dramatic change
in personality or habits.
For example, a person with an addiction is likely to
abandon prior hobbies and interests in favor of using. He
or she may begin having troubles with money or
budgeting when the cost of obtaining the addictive
substance becomes a drain on financial resources.
Emotional changes such as rapid mood changes may also
become evident, particularly if the addicted individual
must use constantly in order to avoid withdrawal
symptoms.
