  3. 3. Is Depression more likely to be passed through genes or from everyday problems? <ul><li>Stress is a major cause of depression as well as death of a family member. But it is also believed that mental depression is passed on through Genes. </li></ul>Genes- 36.8% Everyday Problems- 84.2%
  4. 4. How common is depression in the United States? <ul><li>19 Million people suffer from depression in the united states twice as many women as men. 15% of Americans’ have suffered from depression at one point in their lives. </li></ul>Least Common- 5.3% Common- 57.9% Very common- 36.8%

How do teenagers treat their depression? <ul><li>Some teenagers abuse substances or their bodies to treat their depression, this cause more harm than help while many teens receive prescriptions meant to balance the chemicals in their brain. </li></ul>Drugs- 78.9% Prescription Medication- 31.6% Self Mutilation- 73.7%

What are some causes of depression other that being passed on through your genes? <ul><li>Abuse, Illness, certain medications, major events such as marriage, and drug abuse can cause depression. </li></ul>Everyone questioned said everyday problems were factors that lead to depression. No one related depression to their Genes.
