1. We attended Shopify 2019 to witness their
biggest announcements of the year firsthand.
If you didn't have a chance to attend the event,
we put together an insider's recap for you.
2. Over the Shopify Unite 2019 weekend, Shopify's
teams announced new products, features and what
aspects of their business they will be investing in.
And they all shared one thing in common...
3. ...each announcement focused on how to bring the
tools, services and technologies enjoyed by the
largest e-commerce brands to brands of every size.
4. That theme of empowerment set the stage
for some industry-shifting technology and
product announcements...
5. Augmented Reality Support
Shopify shared that based on their data, customers
who interact with a 3D model of a product are
more than twice as likely to
complete a purchase
than when they didn’t.
6. In response to that data, Shopify announced it
would be making augmented reality tools,
previously only accessible to the largest e-
commerce industry leaders, available to merchants
of all sizes.
7. Shopify Point of Sale Updates
Shopify introduced a new "Tap and Chip" case that
allows for their Shopify Point of Sale to work with a
mobile device....
8. ...The use cases for a mobile Shopify POS are
endless: big brands can use it to eliminate long
lines, a single stand at a Saturday market can use it
as their full POS solution, and businesses can use it
at trade shows and industry meet-ups...
9. A tool like this has the power to instantly improve
the customer service experience and business
operations for brands of any size.
11. Logistics (delivery, stock, warehousing, etc.) is an
enormous hurdle for smaller e-commerce
merchants. Most solutions are at best expensive
and complicated to work with and most won't work
with smaller merchants at all.
12. To provide smaller merchants with a solution,
Shopify is investing $1 billion in building their own
logistics network.
13. They will be offering 2-day shipping to merchants
selling between 10-10,000 items per day with plans
to scale "up and down" to merchants selling
between 3-30,000 items per day.
14. Simplified Contracts: Shopify can set up a
merchant for distribution in a few mouse-clicks.
Machine Learning: Merchants will know ahead
of time that they will soon run out of a product at
a particular node in the network.
Customer Packaging: Custom packaging with
merchants branded packaging.
