Shatia Berkhalter is a 23-year-old who currently lives with her parents in Chicago. She has an interest in traveling but remains close to her family. Her previous work experience includes being a cook and trainer at Garrett Popcorn Shops, but she resigned due to long hours and commutes without sufficient pay. She is certified as a Registered Medical Assistant but has struggled to find work in that field. She is currently studying at i.c. stars to expand her technology skills and hopes to eventually combine her medical background with technology in a career in medical technology.

2. Fun Facts
I will be 24 years old in December.
I have three siblings, two brothers and one sister.
Although I am not the youngest, I am the baby girl, and I am spoiled.
I still live with my parents, but I plan to have my own place within the next year.

3. My Hobbies
I was born and raised in the
southside of Chicago. I’ve
made traveling my hobby
because I don’t consider
myself a city-girl. I would
love to live in the country
but I am emotionally
attached to my family. I see
myself going wherever they
go, so I hope they travel the
world.

4. Past Experience
For a year, I worked at Garrett Popcorn Shops as a cook and trainer. The commute
was two hours and I was only making $9.50 an hour. For the most part, I enjoyed
my work. They expected me to work overnight shifts and long hours without a raise.
The time spent away from my family just didn’t seem worth it. I began to feel
overwhelmed and that feeling lead to my eventual resignation.

5. Education
In the past, I attended college at Illinois School of Health Careers and earned my
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification. Since I’ve had this certification, I
haven’t been able to find work in that field. I decided that it was time to gather more
skills; but “What field should I seek out?” was the question.

6. I’ve Found My Future
After 8 months of being unemployed, I found i.c. stars. Since I have been at i.c.
stars, my love for technology has definitely grown. My aim is to become a technical
genius. After the program, I would like to somehow combine my medical skills with
the technical and pursue a career in medical technology.
