It is estimated that 2/3 of women trafficked for prostitution worldwide annually come from Eastern Europe, three-quarters having never worked as prostitutes before.
4. But it does not end there. Sex trafficking is also a problem in the United States. Pimps prey on young women and girls by finding their weakness and then exploiting it. They kidnap women and force them to perform sexual favors for strangers. These women are abused, mistreated, and striped of their rights.

6. 62% of United States women are domestically trafficked inside the United States; the other 38% of women are sent out of the country. Women are often moved across city or state borders as a way to entrap them and reduce the chance of escape. Although they are not often exported, some women are sold to wealthy males in foreign countries.
7. Women can enter the sex industry in many ways. 28% of women said that they had had intimate relationships with the men who pimped them. A number of women described having been beaten and that eventually involved into pimping. Many women don’t get initially put into prostitution. Some women are forced to make pornographic videos before they are trafficked. Also many strippers are drawn into prostitution.

The most psychological harm towards women in the sex industry, aside being forced to have sex with multiple men in one day, comes from the harm the traffickers inflict as a way to control the women. Women are forced to stay indoors. Many traffickers lock their women in closets, or small spaces. These women are not given a car or the option of going outside. Everything about their person is controlled by the pimp, including whether or not they eat.
9. If the women are sent to prostitute themselves in streets they are constantly watched. Most of the time a pimp stays in a car near the vicinity where he can get a clear view of the girl. If the pimp does not want to stay then another female who is no longer a flight risk and is very trust worthy is left to watch over the girl.

Pimps often use the excuse that they need to pay for the housing, food, and clothes of the women. But most of the time the pimps just refuse to give the women a portion of their earnings. Even when women are given money, women usually give their money back to the pimps in order to support their drug and alcohol habit.
