1. From childhood, I was captivated by a popular
superhero television program in the mid-nineties.
Every weekend, I exuberantly awaited the show's
telecast, marveling at how the hero fought against
evil and saved the innocent with extraordinary
superpowers. Amidst the action, one word stood
out: "Kundalini." As a young child, I couldn't grasp
its profound meaning, but my father explained that
it involved exercising the mind to attain powers,
sparking my curiosity.
Decades later, after delving into books, myths, and
documentaries, I discovered the immense
transformative power of Kundalini—a practice
deeply rooted in ancient Hindu texts and refined by
Indian sages for millennia. Kundalini, often referred
to as the hidden serpent coil of human
consciousness, is a spiritual journey aimed at
harnessing dormant energy to attain control over
mind, soul, and body beyond ordinary human
capabilities.
2. At the core of Kundalini practice lies the concept of
a coiled serpent, symbolizing the dormant energy
residing at the base of the human spine. The goal is
to awaken this energy and guide it through the
seven chakras, or energy centers, to achieve
enlightenment. Each chakra represents a different
level of consciousness, akin to progressing through
levels in a video game where powers increase with
each stage. For instance in a 3D video game of a
battle ground, a solider in the first level has only a
knife to defend him from his enemy. When he
crosses the first and goes to the second level, he
gets a gun out of nowhere, in the third, he gets a
automatic assault rifle, in the fourth level, he gets a
war tank, in the fifth, he gets a chopper and so on. It
technically means his powers are increasing in every
level he attains till the supremacy, the supreme
seventh chakra.
3. Similarly, the journey of Kundalini involves
ascending through chakras, each unlocking higher
levels of consciousness and capabilities.
Reflecting on great minds like Albert Einstein, who
purportedly utilized only a fraction of his brain's
potential, i wonder if he touched upon the first
chakra of Kundalini, contributing to his genius and
become the greatest minds of all times. There are
numerous stories I heard about the Indian sages
who are believed to have some sort of remarkable
ability that came into limelight during the colonial
rule of British India.
Once an unknown sage was brought into the court
of law for witnessing a murder. He was asked by the
court to give the location of the dumped body. The
sage told to go and look to west of the town to find
a big shaded tree where two line of ants are
crossing, one from upward and the other from
downward, the police move to the spot and found
4. the exact tree with two line of ants crossing one
another with a body beneath the ground.
Stories of Swami Ramkrishna, talking and speaking
with God. Stories of sage Loknath who won over
appetite, could live without food for months.
Stories of Ramthakur who appear out of his picture
to feed a little hungry boy. Stories of Trailanga
Swami who lived 280 years, the longest human life
span ever recorded.
Story of monk Milarepa who has the ability to
levitate. Besides that, there are countless of stories
to be found in the Indian subcontinent and across
the world. Could these revered figures have
accessed the first or second chakra, laying the
foundation for their exceptional powers?
Yet, amidst these tales lies a pivotal inquiry: what
unfolds upon activation of the supreme seventh
chakra? Delving into ancient texts and spiritual
teachings yields scant insights into this
transcendent state. The term "Adiyogi" beckons,
5. combining "Adi" meaning ancient and "Yogi"
denoting a practitioner of yoga, often associated
with Shiva, the epitome of meditative
consciousness.
In contemplating Shiva's eternal meditation, we
encounter a distinction: "shava" denotes pre-
seventh chakra activation, while "shiva" signifies
post-activation, embodying supreme consciousness
as Adiyogi. Shiva's timeless meditation predates the
universe's birth, symbolizing the culmination of
Kundalini's journey—a union with the divine and
ultimate enlightenment.
The allure of Kundalini lies not only in its spiritual
depth but also in its relevance to modern seekers.
In an age marked by technological prowess yet
spiritual yearning, Kundalini offers a path to inner
awakening and expanded consciousness. It beckons
individuals to explore the depths of their being,
unlocking hidden potentials and transcending
limitations.
6. Practitioners of Kundalini embark on an
introspective odyssey, navigating the intricacies of
mind, body, and spirit. Through meditation,
breathwork, yogic practices, and mindful living, they
stir the dormant serpent within, awakening
energies that lead to profound personal growth and
spiritual evolution.
However, the journey of Kundalini is not without
cautionary tales. Misguided practices or premature
awakening can lead to imbalance, psychological
distress, or even physical harm. Thus, guidance
from experienced mentors and adherence to
traditional teachings are paramount on this
transformative journey.
In essence, Kundalini embodies the eternal quest
for self-realization and union with the divine. It
transcends religious boundaries, resonating with
seekers across cultures and epochs. Whether
viewed through the lens of ancient wisdom or
contemporary spirituality, Kundalini remains a
7. timeless testament to humanity's enduring quest
for enlightenment and higher consciousness.
As I reflect on my childhood fascination with
superheroes and the enigmatic concept of
Kundalini, I realize that the hero's journey extends
beyond external battles to the realms of inner
exploration and self-mastery. Just as the hero
harnesses superpowers to vanquish villains,
Kundalini empowers individuals to conquer inner
demons, illuminate the path of self-discovery, and
ultimately, awaken to the boundless potential
within.
In conclusion, Kundalini stands as a testament to
humanity's perennial quest for transcendence—an
odyssey that unfolds not in the external world of
action-packed dramas but in the silent depths of
consciousness, where the serpent coil of awakening
awaits those brave enough to embark on the
journey of self-realization.
