The United Church celebrates diversity in its congregations and communities. The Jane Finch Community Ministry in Toronto serves a diverse neighborhood of over 110 nationalities and 70 languages. When tragedy struck, the ministry brought people together through traditional healing practices to grieve and learn. The ministry provides various programs and services with support from Mission and Service funding.

The Jane Finch Community Ministry is in the public housing community of Firgrove,

Here’s one example of how this ministry recognizes and responds to the area’s diver-
sity. When a young man was stabbed to death in Firgrove, it sent shock waves through
the community. With resident leaders and other organizations, the ministry held two

Welcome and About Today: greeters and candle lighters are the same person/family but this is not always. If
you are new greeting is great way to get to get to know folks and for folks to get to

Our Fall Bible Study will look at the Life of Jesus in film. We will be looking at how
Lighting the Resurrection Candle: Jesus is portrayed in such interpretive movies as Jesus of Nazareth, The King of
Kings, The Greatest Story Ever Told, Jesus Christ Super Star, The Life of Brian, Jesus
Revealed etc. The format will involve the use of film but we will not be watching
the whole of each movie. Participants in this program will look at selected Bible
