The Battle of Jutland took place from 31 May - 1 June 1916 between the British Royal Navy's Grand Fleet and the German Imperial Navy's High Seas Fleet during World War I. The two fleets clashed in the North Sea, with the British initially gaining the advantage after "crossing the T" of the German line before nightfall caused both sides to withdraw, avoiding a decisive victory for either side despite high casualties and the loss of several ships.
