The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem through prevention, saving lives, and reducing suffering from this disease. The organization tracks cancer data including incidence, mortality, survival rates, risk factors, and estimated new cases and deaths. Resources on the latest cancer research, survivor stories, and information on prevention and early detection can be found on the American Cancer Society's website. The organization provides a community for cancer survivors and funds research with the goal of eventually eliminating cancer.
Silicon Valley Cancer Foundation Brochure
The Silicon Valley Cancer Foundation provides cancer information, conducts research, and assists women's health concerns with a focus on breast cancer. They strive for early breast cancer detection and prevention through research and new therapies. Their breast cancer program emphasizes that early detection is key but most difficult in women under 50 due to more aggressive cancers and dense breast tissue making mammograms only 50-70% effective. The Foundation promotes the non-invasive Halo Breast Test to help address these issues.

The New York State Department of Health Cancer Services Program is pleased to provide you with an updated version of the Resource Guide. This guide contains resources that can be used to promote awareness about the importance of breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening and improve the quality of cancer screening-related care received by New Yorkers. All of the patient education materials, CME-granting continuing education opportunities and additional cancer-related resources listed in this guide can be provided to you at no charge. We will be updating this Resource Guide periodically and we encourage you to share it with your colleagues, healthcare providers, members and community-based organizations.
The Cancer Services Program strives to increase public and provider awareness about the importance of guideline-concordant cancer screening; assist underserved populations to access and navigate available cancer screening, diagnostic and treatment services through partnerships with health care providers, health departments and community organizations; and integrate guidance-driven, quality preventive cancer screening into the care received by the women and men of New York State. We look forward to working with you to increase the proportion of women and men in New York State who are up-to-date on recommended preventive cancer screenings.

Chase After a Cure (CAAC) was started in 2009 by Summerville, S.C., resident Whitney Ringler and her family after her son, Chase, was given a 30 percent chance of survival after being diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nerve tissue of the sympathetic nervous system. Chase survived this aggressive form of cancer and now his family works tirelessly on behalf of childhood cancer research.
CAAC raises awareness about childhood cancer, specifically neuroblastoma, and funds childhood cancer research at the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital.
Cancer is the No. 1 cause of disease-related death among children. About 13,500 children between birth and age 19 are diagnosed with cancer each year. Just at the Medical University of South Carolina, about 70 children are diagnosed with pediatric cancer annually.
Compared to adult cancer, childhood cancers are rare. Even though childhood cancer incidence rates continue to increase slightly each year, they still represent less than 1 percent of all new cancer diagnoses. That means funding for childhood cancer research is limited. In particular, neuroblastoma – which has one of the lowest survival rates – receives very little attention because the population base with this form of cancer isn’t profitable enough for pharmaceutical companies to develop new treatments.

This document discusses how character and emotional behavior can affect recovery from cancer based on observations at the San Jorge Children's Hospital. Younger patients between ages 6-7 who maintained positive attitudes during treatment recovered quickly after chemotherapy. In contrast, older patients ages 18-19 struggled more - one with pre-existing depression, the other with varying moods during treatment. The conclusion is that while many factors influence recovery, maintaining a positive outlook can promote psychological adjustment and potentially extend survival for cancer patients.
Final Project - CHNGNF8.org Grant
The 1,000 Ukes of Light campaign by CHNGNF8.org aims to provide ukuleles and music instruction to cancer survivors to promote healing through music. The campaign will provide 150 ukuleles to survivors around the world for $10,500 through a 4 phase plan: 1) Prepare staff, 2) Implement operating plan, 3) Develop instructional materials, and 4) Assess the program. The goal is to enhance lives of survivors and generate awareness and future funding for the organization's services.

Kendall Phelps-Polirer has wanted to be a doctor since witnessing her friend Robin's battle with brain cancer in middle school. She participated in cancer research programs in high school and college and is passionate about joining the fight against cancer. She is deciding between becoming a medical oncologist or surgical oncologist. Both careers require extensive education and training, but will allow her to help cancer patients through treatment and support. With cancer rates continuing to rise, she is committed to pursuing a career in oncology.

Em consonância com os ODS – Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável e a Estratégia Global para a Saúde das Mulheres, Crianças e Adolescentes, e aplicando uma abordagem baseada nos direitos humanos, os esforços de cuidados pós-natais devem expandir-se para além da cobertura e da simples sobrevivência, de modo a incluir cuidados de qualidade.
Estas diretrizes visam melhorar a qualidade dos cuidados pós-natais essenciais e de rotina prestados às mulheres e aos recém-nascidos, com o objetivo final de melhorar a saúde e o bem-estar materno e neonatal.
Uma “experiência pós-natal positiva” é um resultado importante para todas as mulheres que dão à luz e para os seus recém-nascidos, estabelecendo as bases para a melhoria da saúde e do bem-estar a curto e longo prazo. Uma experiência pós-natal positiva é definida como aquela em que as mulheres, pessoas que gestam, os recém-nascidos, os casais, os pais, os cuidadores e as famílias recebem informação consistente, garantia e apoio de profissionais de saúde motivados; e onde um sistema de saúde flexível e com recursos reconheça as necessidades das mulheres e dos bebês e respeite o seu contexto cultural.
Estas diretrizes consolidadas apresentam algumas recomendações novas e já bem fundamentadas sobre cuidados pós-natais de rotina para mulheres e neonatos que recebem cuidados no pós-parto em unidades de saúde ou na comunidade, independentemente dos recursos disponíveis.
É fornecido um conjunto abrangente de recomendações para cuidados durante o período puerperal, com ênfase nos cuidados essenciais que todas as mulheres e recém-nascidos devem receber, e com a devida atenção à qualidade dos cuidados; isto é, a entrega e a experiência do cuidado recebido. Estas diretrizes atualizam e ampliam as recomendações da OMS de 2014 sobre cuidados pós-natais da mãe e do recém-nascido e complementam as atuais diretrizes da OMS sobre a gestão de complicações pós-natais.
