Re: Scholarship Fund
Dear Mr. Niswonger,
I was excited to read about the four to six year scholarship that the Niswonger Foundation was
giving to one lucky college student. My goal is to go to University of Kentucky in Lexington and
to peruse a Physical Therapy degree. It has always been my passion to be a physical therapist
ever since I was a little boy. My mother was a nurse, and she loved her patients and took care of
them so well. Her medical background is what pushed me to want to become a physical therapist.
By completing my physical therapy degree, I feel that I will not only further my career, but I will
also follow my mother’s footsteps. I want to make her and my family proud and I want to take
care of my patients in the best way possible. Being a physical therapist means everything to me.
I plan to graduate from Sullivan Central High School in May of 2016 with honors. I am an active
student at my high school. I have enrolled in three dual enrollment classes at my high school that
are given through North East State Community College. I am involved in several organizations
and after school activities. I belong to the National Honors Society, the EPIC Team, and Beta
Club. I also play sports at my high school. I am a three year varsity baseball player. Through
these activities I have learned many things: they teach you good morals, leadership, work ethic,
and responsibility, I believe in not just attending school but also getting involved in the school
and the community.
Giving back to the community is something that is really important to me. My hometown has
made me who I am and will never forget where I come from. For this I am grateful and I will
always be there for my community as it has been for me. I love to do volunteer work. I played
American Legion baseball for several years and during my time with the team I helped with the
local post. Hammond Post 3 of Kingsport, Tennessee was our sponsor and I would often provide
assistance for post events and parties. Through the years I would help the veterans more and
more as I built a relationship with them. I would volunteer for anything from a Fourth of July
parade to a Christmas Ball. I also have become close with a local Army unit, 702nd Engineer
Unit. I help the unit year round with their fundraisers and family days. I love seeing a unit come
together and get to spend the whole day with their families. Seeing the looks on all of the kids
facing makes the world feel a little less crazy. I will always be there to help those in my
community in need because I know they would do the same.
Mr. Niswonger, I know that you will receive numerous applications for this scholarship fund. I
am hoping that you will consider my application and allow me to fulfill my dream of being a
physical therapist. The medical field is challenging and one that has difficult classes; however, I
feel that I will have no problem overcoming this challenge. To be a physical therapist means
everything to me, but with the cost of room and board, books and all the other charges, it is going
to be a tough bill. I appreciate your consideration.
Sincerely,
Andy Jonus
