Prospect Park West Rightsizing
Prospect Park West in Brooklyn was redesigned to reduce its 3 lanes of traffic down to 2 lanes, with the addition of a protected bike lane separated from traffic by parking. This was done to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists accessing nearby Prospect Park by slowing vehicle speeds, as the previous design had resulted in injuries. Though controversial initially, measurements after the redesign showed improved safety, increased bicycling, and maintained vehicle traffic flow.

The Museum District began as a home for retired soldiers and grew rapidly from 1895-1940 with a variety of architectural styles including Queen Anne, Classical Revival, and Tudor Revival. Twenty-two of its buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. Both neighborhoods have design overlays to preserve their historic character during redevelopment.

COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY The Impact of the 2030 Challenge The 2030 Challenge has been adopted and is being implemented by 80% of the top 10 and 70% of the top 20 architecture/engineering/planning firms in the U.S. In addition, the AIA, ASHRAE, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the federal government, and many other organizations and state and local governments and agencies have adopted the Challenge. In Canada, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, the Ontario Association of Architects and cities such as Vancouver have also adopted the Challenge targets. path to solving it.
