The Polish State Archives provides several educational activities and projects to engage the public, including exhibitions held in public spaces in Warsaw in 2010, a genealogical competition hosted in archives, a competition for teenagers on cultural coexistence in Calisia region, and archival lessons. These activities aim to educate the public about the archives' collections and the importance of archives through interactive and engaging mediums.
Tourism in Bratislava has grown due to several factors: deregulation of air travel in Europe has increased cheap flights; Slovakia's EU membership; and Bratislava emerging as a new destination between Vienna and Budapest along the Danube river cruise route. Bratislava markets itself as an affordable city break option with attractions like old town, churches, and ski resorts nearby. However, increased tourism has both positive and negative social, economic, and environmental impacts on the city.
The Center for North American Studies (CNAS) at the University of Economics in Bratislava is currently the only program of its kind in Slovakia that provides an interdisciplinary understanding of political, economic, and cultural aspects of the United States and Canada. Courses are taught in English by both domestic and foreign experts using innovative teaching methods. The CNAS connects academia with business and applies knowledge through case studies and videoconferences.
Slovakia has long been under the rule of stronger powers like Hungary and Austria-Hungary. Bratislava, located in a strategic position, was an important city for the Romans who established forces there and controlled commerce. It became known for wine trade. In the 10th century, Bratislava was occupied by Hungarians and became a trade center. It saw many battles as forces tried to take control. Between the 14th-15th centuries, King Sigismund invested in Bratislava. In the 16th century, as Budapest fell to the Turks, Bratislava became the capital and coronation city of Hungary. It lost some status in the 19th century after the abolition of slavery
