To Whom It May Concern,
This letter is to acknowledge that during the course of a
few weeks of the summer of 2016, Sam Ahlelli was assigned a
project to build an intrusion detection system utilizing the open
source SNORT server.
With very loose parameters provided to him, Sam was able
to build a windows VM quickly, obtain the necessary programs
with dependencies and navigate through the myriad of
documentation on line to find a suitable build method for
implementation.
The server was configured and operational, we reviewed
his work and verified the ability to intercept packets on a live
network. Additionally, Sam was able to provide a summation of
his work in the exercise and make sound decisions as to the
realistic usefulness of utilizing this open source IDS.
