School for Adult Learning
LET US NAME FIVE WAYS
The School for Adult Learning at the University of Indianapolis is ready to help you earn your degree
without sacrificing all the other parts of your life that make up who you are. Here’s how:
WHY THE SCHOOL
FOR ADULT LEARNING
WILL WORK FOR YOU
WE FIT IN YOUR SCHEDULE
You take one class at a time in
accelerated five-week sessions.*
You meet on campus one night a
week, giving you access to university
resources while making it convenient
for your busy schedule.
“You can still keep your job during the day,
take care of your family, come to school
at night...and still have your life. You don’t
have to give up everything else.”
-Jacqui Araujo-Hale
WE GIVE CREDIT FOR
YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Transferring academic credits
is simple at UIndy. And with
prior learning assessments and
examinations for credit, your
life experience really does mean
something here.
“UIndy understands the unique needs of
traditional students and working adults.
The more life and professional experience
you bring to the classroom, the more you
will get from your studies.”
–Jay Johnson
YOU’RE NEVER
FAR FROM HELP
Our office stays open past normal
business hours, so you have time
to visit the dedicated student
services coordinator or financial aid
specialist.
“All of the things an adult learner needs
are right there in the office and are easy to
access. I could pop into the office any time
and the ladies at the front desk are always
super helpful as well.”
—Jody Miles
YOU CAN START YEAR-ROUND
When you’re ready to take the next step, so are we.
Opportunities to start in our adult learning programs are
offered throughout the year, so there’s no need to wait.
YOU GET A REAL-WORLD EDUCATION
Our professors are working professionals in addition
to scholars, and they are invested in making your
degree valuable to employers.
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AND ENGAGEMENT
Community Leadership and Engagement provides
students the opportunity to develop leadership skills
and experience with hands-on, community-focused
curriculum. Students will gain communication skills,
study leadership theories, and apply their knowledge in
corporate, nonprofit, community-based, and government
settings.
DIGITAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
The Digital Media Management program spans a broad
spectrum of topics including social media, digital apps,
content management, reputation management, and even
copyright law and legal issues. Students experience a
comprehensive approach to the field of digital media
to gain well-rounded foundational knowledge of this
constantly evolving field.
EMERGENCY & DISASTER MANAGEMENT
The Emergency & Disaster Management program
prepares students for careers in emergency
management and public safety. The program will
introduce students to the all-hazards approach,
emergency and disaster management phases, risk
assessment, prevention and management, counter-
terrorism, and more. Students complete the program
prepared to earn the Certified Emergency Manager
designation. Associate degree (60 credit hours) and
certificate options are also available.
HEALTH CARE CONSUMER ADVOCACY
Health Care Consumer Advocacy prepares students
to serve as advocates for health care consumers,
caregivers, families, and health care teams as they
transition through the many levels of the health care
system. Graduates can expect to assist patients in
understanding, developing, interpreting, and following
care plans.
LIBERAL STUDIES
Research shows the skills that today’s employers most
commonly seek are precisely those gained through a
Liberal Studies curriculum. A skill base founded on
communication, critical thinking, and the ability to work
effectively with others helps develop a well-rounded
individual. Students in the Liberal Studies program have
the freedom to choose up to 70 credits of their own.
ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP
Organizational Leadership provides learners the
opportunity to develop the skills and gain the knowledge
to be effective leaders. Leadership skills empower
learners, provide opportunities to enhance their daily
living, increase their mobility within current employment
settings, and develop their potential for employment in
different work situations. The program lays a foundation
in leadership with courses in project management,
human resource management, marketing, accounting,
international business, and more.
