8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Module 1- Strengthening FAMILY Relationships
Start your session with a prayer. The facilitator will group you into smaller groups with maximum of
seven members. Each group will have a leader. Have each member read the following Bible texts respectively
and other supported readings from the Spirit of Prophecy. Discuss in every group and give opportunity for each
member in the group to share his/her insights and reflections from the readings and relate them to his/her
experiences and ideas based on the topic-FAMILY.
Bible Texts:
 Romans 14:7
 James 5:16
 1 Peter 2:5
 1 Samuel 16:7,11&12
 Isaiah 1:18,19
 Philippians 2:1-7
 2 Timothy 3:1-4
Spirit of Prophecy Excerpts:
 “The relationship existing in the pure family of God in heaven was to exist in the family of
God on earth. Under God, Adam was to stand at the head of the earthly family to maintain the principles of
the heavenly family. This would have brought peace and happiness. But the law that none “liveth to
himself” Satan was determined to oppose. He desired to live for self. He sought to make himself a center of
influence.” ~TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 6, PAGE 236
Sabbath Retreat 2019
4
 “There is another work that should receive attention on the preparation day. On this day all
differences between brethren, whether in the family or in the church, should be put away. Let all bitterness
and wrath and malice be expelled from the soul…. Before the setting of the sun let the members of
the family assemble to read God's word, to sing and pray. There is need of reform here, for many have
been remiss. We need to confess to God and to one another.” ~TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH,
VOL. 6, PAGE 356
 “Let not the precious hours of the Sabbath be wasted in bed. On Sabbath morning
the family should be astir early. If they rise late, there is confusion and bustle in preparing for breakfast and
Sabbath school. There is hurrying, jostling, and impatience. Thus unholy feelings come into the home. The
Sabbath, thus desecrated, becomes a weariness, and its coming is dreaded rather than loved.”
~TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 6, PAGE 357
 “At family worship let the children take a part. Let all bring their Bibles and each read a verse
or two. Then let some familiar hymn be sung, followed by prayer. For this, Christ has given a model. The
Lord's Prayer was not intended to be repeated merely as a form, but it is an illustration of what our prayers
should be—simple, earnest, and comprehensive. In a simple petition tell the Lord your needs and express
gratitude for His mercies. Thus you invite Jesus as a welcome guest into your home and heart.”
~TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 6, PAGE 357, 358
 “Angels are interested in the spiritual welfare of all who are seeking to restore God's moral
image in man; and the earthly family are to connect with the heavenly family in binding up the wounds and
bruises that sin has made. Angelic agencies, though invisible, are co-operating with visible human agencies,
forming a relief association with men.” ~TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 6, PAGE 456
 ”There are many children who profess to know the truth, who do not render to their parents
the honor and affection that are due to them, who manifest but little love to father and mother, and fail to
honor them in deferring to their wishes, or in seeking to relieve them of anxiety. Many who profess to be
Christians do not know what it means to “honor thy father and thy mother,” and consequently will know
just as little what it means, “that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”
Our youth profess to be among those who keep the commandments of God, and yet many of them neglect
and break the fifth commandment; and the rich blessing promised to those who observe this precept, and
honor father and mother, cannot be fulfilled to them. Unless they repent of their sin, and reform their
practices and character through the grace of Christ, they will never enter into the new earth, upon which
they may live eternally. Those who do not respect and love their parents will not respect and honor God.
Those who fail to bear the test, who fail to honor their God-fearing parents, fail to obey God, and therefore
cannot expect to come into the land of promise.” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 332
Sabbath Retreat 2019

 “The parents are to guard their children with wise, pleasant instruction. As the very best
friends of these inexperienced ones, they should help them in the work of overcoming, for it means
everything to them to be victorious. They should consider that their own dear children who are seeking to
do right are younger members of the Lord's family, and they should feel an intense interest in helping them
to make straight paths in the King's highway of obedience. With loving interest they should teach them day
by day what it means to be children of God and to yield the will in obedience to Him. Teach them that
obedience to God involves obedience to their parents. This must be a daily, hourly work. Parents, watch,
watch and pray, and make your children your companions.” ~TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH,
VOL. 6, PAGE 94
 “To parents He sends the warning cry: Gather your children into your own houses; gather
them away from those who are disregarding the commandments of God, who are teaching and practicing
evil.” ~TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 6, PAGE 195
Questions to Guide Your Discussions
 How does your family affects you as an individual?
 What should a family do before the Sabbath?
 Why is it necessary for children to yield to their parents?
 How can a family affect eternity?
 How can you strengthen family relationships?
Collect the Sabbath School offerings and make a list of the attendance. (Give the report & offerings to your
Sabbath School Council per department.) End the first session in singing the theme song and a prayer band focusing
about Strengthening Family Relationships.

Module 2- Strengthening Your Relationship With GOD
Start your session with an opening song (theme song) and a prayer. The facilitator will group you into
smaller groups with maximum of seven members. Each group will have a leader. Have each member read the
following Bible texts respectively and other supported readings from the Spirit of Prophecy. Discuss in every
group and give opportunity for each member in the group to share his/her insights and reflections from the
readings and relate them to his/her experiences and ideas based on the topic-Your Relationship with GOD.
Bible Texts:
 Psalm 115:3, 56:3
 Exodus 34:5-7
 2 Corinthians 6:7,8
 Romans 8:17
 Matthew 6:8
 James 1:17
 Psalm 89:13-18
 1 John 4:9,10
Spirit of Prophecy Excerpts:
 “If you call God your Father, you acknowledge yourselves His children, to be guided by His
wisdom, and to be obedient in all things, knowing that His love is changeless. You will accept His plan for
your life. As children of God, you will hold His honor, His character, His family, His work, as the objects
of your highest interest. It will be your joy to recognize and honor your relation to your Father, and to
every member of His family.” ~Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing, 105
Sabbath Retreat 2019
7
 “If God, the divine artist, gives to the simple flowers, that perish in a day, their delicate and
varied colors, how much greater care will He have for those who are created in His own image? ... If men
love and obey God, and do their part, God will provide for all their wants.... No man can add one cubit to
his stature, no matter how solicitous he may be to do so. It is no less unreasonable to be troubled about the
morrow and its needs. Do your duty, and trust in God; for He knows of what things you have need.... He
watches over us with more tenderness than does a mother over an afflicted child.... God is a friend in
perplexity and affliction, a protector in distress, a preserver in the thousand dangers that are unseen to us.”
~The Review and Herald, September 18, 1888
 “God dwells in every abode; He hears every word that is spoken, listens to every prayer that is
offered, tastes the sorrows and disappointments of every soul, regards the treatment that is given to father,
mother, sister, friend, and neighbor. He cares for our necessities, and His love and mercy and grace are
continually flowing to satisfy our need.... In His care we may safely rest.” ~Thoughts From the Mount of
Blessing, 105
 “Our Lord adapts Himself to our special needs. He is a shade on our right hand. He walks
close by our side, ready to supply all our necessities. He comes very near to those who are engaged in
willing service for Him. He knows every one by name. O what assurances we have of the tender love of
Christ.” ~The S.D.A. Bible Commentary 3:1153
 “We may state to Him our temporal matters, asking Him for bread and raiment as well as for
the bread of life and the robe of Christ's righteousness.... The gifts of Him who has all power in heaven and
earth are in store for the children of God. Gifts so precious that they come to us through the costly sacrifice
of the Redeemer's blood; gifts that will satisfy the deepest craving of the heart; gifts lasting as eternity, will
be received and enjoyed by all who will come to God as little children. Take God's promises as your own,
plead them before Him as His own words, and you will receive fullness of joy.” ~Thoughts From the
Mount of Blessing, 133, 134
 “God is our Father, a tender parent, solicitous for His spiritual children. He is pledged to be
the protector, counsellor, guide, and friend, of all who are obedient to Him.” ~Letter 79, 1898
 “To what greater honor could we aspire than to be called the children of God? What greater
rank could we hold, what greater inheritance could we find, than that which comes to those who are heirs
of God and joint heirs with Christ?” ~The Youth's Instructor, December 8, 1892

Module 3- Strengthening PEER Relationships
Start your session with series of Action Songs to be followed by the Theme Song and a prayer. The
facilitator will group you into smaller groups with maximum of seven members. Each group will have a leader.
Have each member read the following Bible texts respectively and other supported readings from the Spirit of
Prophecy. Discuss in every group and give opportunity for each member in the group to share his/her insights
and reflections from the readings and relate them to his/her experiences and ideas based on the topic-PEERS.
Bible Texts:
 Zechariah 3:13
 Matthew 7:17-20
 2 Corinthians 6:14-17
 Ruth 2:13
 Job 2:11
 1 Samuel 20:4,17
 Proverbs 18:24
 Matthew 11:19
Spirit of Prophecy Excerpts:
 “Students should be taught that they are not independent atoms, but that each one is a thread
which is to unite with other threads in composing a fabric. In no department can this instruction be more
effectually given than in the school home. Here students are daily surrounded by opportunities which, if
improved, will greatly aid in developing the social traits of their characters. It lies in their own power so to
improve their time and opportunities as to develop a character that will make them happy and useful. Those
who shut themselves up within themselves, who are unwilling to be drawn upon to bless others by friendly
associations, lose many blessings; for by mutual contact minds receive polish and refinement; by social
intercourse acquaintances are formed and friendships contracted which result in a unity of heart and an
Sabbath Retreat 2019

atmosphere of love which is pleasing in the sight of heaven.” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE,
PAGE 405
 “Students are to be taught the Christlikeness of exhibiting a kindly interest, a social
disposition, toward those who are in the greatest need, even though these may not be their own chosen
companions. At all times and in all places Jesus manifested a loving interest in the human family, and shed
about Him the light of a cheerful piety. Students should be taught to follow in His steps. They should be
taught to manifest Christian interest, sympathy, and love for their youthful companions, and endeavor to
draw them to Jesus; Christ should be in their hearts as a well of water springing up into everlasting life,
refreshing all with whom they come in contact.” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 406
 “Christ did not refuse to mingle with others in friendly intercourse. When invited to a feast by
Pharisee or publican, He accepted the invitation. On such occasions every word that He uttered was a savor
of life unto life to His hearers; for He made the dinner hour an occasion of imparting many precious
lessons adapted to their needs. Christ thus taught His disciples how to conduct themselves when in the
company of those who were not religious as well as of those who were.” ~TESTIMONIES FOR THE
CHURCH, VOL. 6, PAGE 172, 173
 “When your associates urge you into paths of vice and folly, and all around you are tempting
you to forget God, to destroy the capabilities God has intrusted to you, and to debase all that is noble in
your nature, resist them. Remember that you are the Lord's property, bought with a price, the suffering and
agony of the Son of God.…” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 409
 “We should choose the society most favorable to our spiritual advancement, and avail
ourselves of every help within our reach; for Satan will oppose many hindrances to make our progress
toward heaven as difficult as possible. We may be placed in trying positions, for many cannot have their
surroundings what they would; but we should not voluntarily expose ourselves to influences that are
unfavorable to the formation of Christian character. When duty calls us to do this, we should be doubly
watchful and prayerful, that, through the grace of Christ, we may stand uncorrupted.” ~MESSAGES TO
YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 419
 “The matter of choosing associates is one which students should learn to consider seriously.
Among the youth who attend our schools there will always be found two classes, those who seek to please
God and to obey their teachers, and those who are filled with a spirit of lawlessness. If the youth go with
the multitude to do evil, their influence will be cast on the side of the adversary of souls; they will mislead
those who have not cherished principles of unswerving fidelity.” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE,
PAGE 411
Sabbath Retreat 2019
11
 “It has been truly said, “Show me your company, and I will show you your character.” The
youth fail to realize how sensibly both their character and their reputation are affected by their choice of
associates. One seeks the company of those whose tastes and habits and practices are congenial. He who
prefers the society of the ignorant and vicious to that of the wise and good, shows that his own character is
defective. His tastes and habits may at first be altogether dissimilar to the tastes and habits of those whose
company he seeks; but as he mingles with this class, his thoughts and feelings change; he sacrifices right
principles, and insensibly yet unavoidably sinks to the level of his companions. As a stream always
partakes of the property of the soil through which it runs, so the principles and habits of youth invariably
become tinctured with the character of the company in which they mingle.…” ~MESSAGES TO
YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 411, 412
Questions to Guide Your Discussions
 What is the significance of friendship?
 How does your influence affect your friends and vice versa?
 How will you deal with aloof and weak individuals?
 Why is it necessary to choose wisely our companions/friends?
 How can you strengthen your peer relationships?
Collect the offerings for the A.Y. Service. (Give the report & offerings to your A.Y. Council per department).
This time, encourage everyone to write in a separate papers their prayer requests and their negative attitudes to
be changed. Those papers for prayer requests will be dropped/placed in a box and the list of negatives will be
placed in a bottle which will be provided at the auditorium during the Culmination Program.
End the second session in singing the theme song and a prayer band focusing about Strengthening
Peer Relationships.

What A Friend We Have In Jesus
1
What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
2
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
3
Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Bible Texts:  Zechariah 3:13  Matthew 7:17-20  2 Corinthians 6:14-17  Ruth 2:13  Job 2:11  1 Samuel 20:4,17  Proverbs 18:24  Matthew 11:19 Spirit of Prophecy Excerpts:  “Students should be taught that they are not independent atoms, but that each one is a thread which is to unite with other threads in composing a fabric. In no department can this instruction be more effectually given than in the school home. Here students are daily surrounded by opportunities which, if improved, will greatly aid in developing the social traits of their characters. It lies in their own power so to improve their time and opportunities as to develop a character that will make them happy and useful. Those who shut themselves up within themselves, who are unwilling to be drawn upon to bless others by friendly associations, lose many blessings; for by mutual contact minds receive polish and refinement; by social intercourse acquaintances are formed and friendships contracted which result in a unity of heart and an

At all times and in all places Jesus manifested a loving interest in the human family, and shed about Him the light of a cheerful piety. Students should be taught to follow in His steps. They should be taught to manifest Christian interest, sympathy, and love for their youthful companions, and endeavor to draw them to Jesus; Christ should be in their hearts as a well of water springing up into everlasting life, refreshing all with whom they come in contact.” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 406  “Christ did not refuse to mingle with others in friendly intercourse. When invited to a feast by Pharisee or publican, He accepted the invitation. On such occasions every word that He uttered was a savor of life unto life to His hearers; for He made the dinner hour an occasion of imparting many precious lessons adapted to their needs. Christ thus taught His disciples how to conduct themselves when in the company of those who were not religious as well as of those who were.” ~TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 6, PAGE 172, 173  “When your associates urge you into paths of vice and folly, and all around you are tempting you to forget God, to destroy the capabilities God has intrusted to you, and to debase all that is noble in your nature, resist them. Remember that you are the Lord's property, bought with a price, the suffering and agony of the Son of God.…” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 409  “We should choose the society most favorable to our spiritual advancement, and avail ourselves of every help within our reach; for Satan will oppose many hindrances to make our progress toward heaven as difficult as possible. We may be placed in trying positions, for many cannot have their surroundings what they would; but we should not voluntarily expose ourselves to influences that are unfavorable to the formation of Christian character. When duty calls us to do this, we should be doubly watchful and prayerful, that, through the grace of Christ, we may stand uncorrupted.” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 419  “The matter of choosing associates is one which students should learn to consider seriously. Among the youth who attend our schools there will always be found two classes, those who seek to please God and to obey their teachers, and those who are filled with a spirit of lawlessness. If the youth go with the multitude to do evil, their influence will be cast on the side of the adversary of souls; they will mislead those who have not cherished principles of unswerving fidelity.” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 411

Sabbath Retreat 2019 11 “It has been truly said, “Show me your company, and I will show you your character.” The youth fail to realize how sensibly both their character and their reputation are affected by their choice of associates. One seeks the company of those whose tastes and habits and practices are congenial. He who prefers the society of the ignorant and vicious to that of the wise and good, shows that his own character is defective. His tastes and habits may at first be altogether dissimilar to the tastes and habits of those whose company he seeks; but as he mingles with this class, his thoughts and feelings change; he sacrifices right principles, and insensibly yet unavoidably sinks to the level of his companions. As a stream always partakes of the property of the soil through which it runs, so the principles and habits of youth invariably become tinctured with the character of the company in which they mingle.…” ~MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE, PAGE 411, 412 Questions to Guide Your Discussions  What is the significance of friendship?  How does your influence affect your friends and vice versa?  How will you deal with aloof and weak individuals?  Why is it necessary to choose wisely our companions/friends?  How can you strengthen your peer relationships? Collect the offerings for the A.Y. Service. (Give the report & offerings to your A.Y. Council per department). This time, encourage everyone to write in a separate papers their prayer requests and their negative attitudes to be changed. Those papers for prayer requests will be dropped/placed in a box and the list of negatives will be placed in a bottle which will be provided at the auditorium during the Culmination Program.
