Suzanne Briet was a French librarian and scholar who lived from 1894 to 1989. She is considered one of the founders of modern information science and coined the term "documentation" to describe the field of organizing and retrieving information. Briet published her seminal work "What is Documentation?" in 1951 where she argued that any physical object could convey information and should be considered a document.
