The Bowers Hill Interceptor Force Main experienced an emergency break on July 24th. Over 900,000 gallons spilled before the break was contained the next morning. Repairs required around-the-clock work over 9 days to install a new 36-inch plug valve, pipe section, and sleeves. Temporary pumping and dewatering systems were set up to route flow to a pressure reducing station during repairs. The force main was returned to service on August 2nd after a complex repair involving excavation over 15 feet deep to address the pipe failure.
