ROTORUA
About Hamurana Springs Reserve
This is a lovely picturesque area that has centuries of tribal associations to the Ngāti Rangiwewehi people . They view the springs as a taonga (treasure). The Reserve is made up of the Stream, a scenic walking track through a Redwood Grove, the main spring Te Puna-a-Hangarua, the Dancing Sands Spring and a wide variety of wildlife
From the carpark you will see a wooden bridge that will take you over the Hamurana Stream. The walking route progresses through a grove of Redwoods to the largest head spring in the North Island. From there you can make your way back to the carpark along the bordering golf course. The track is very easy and caters to all fitness levels. It's only 800m (½mile) to the spring and would take about 15min to walk. Children and prams are a definite goer for this one.
Getting to Hamurana Springs
The Springs are about 17km (10½mi) and 22mins west out of Rotorua. See the google map for directions. Once you see the golf course on your left-hand side you will know that you are just about there. It makes sense to take in Okere Falls with its' walking track and the whitewater rafting taking place there. It's only another 10km further around the lake.
OKERE FALLS
There are four beautiful falls located on the Okere River and just to make it confusing the Okere River is an 11km (6.8mi) stretch of the Kaituna River. There is a lovely little easy walk through bush (left side of the main carpark). It takes in the waterfalls all the way through to the Trout Pool. The track is 1.2km (0.7mi) long and takes about 30min one way. You can then either wend your way back via Trout Pool Rd or backtrack and take in the falls again. Okere Falls is located about 20mins out of Rotorua. Take SH33 heading towards Tauranga until you get to Trout Pool Rd. Once you see water on your right hand side you are not far from a sharp right-hand bend in the road. While still on the bend look for a left-hand turn which will be Trout Pool Rd. It is sign-posted on the opposite side of the road but there are no BIG signs saying
Okere Falls so you could easily overshoot. The carparks for visitors take their turns in being Hotspots for thieves, both for breaking into or taking vehicles. If you can, avoid at all times leaving ANYTHING in your vehicle. In fact, leave the glovebox open and show that there is nothing of value inside. This may deter thieves from breaking a window to gain access.

Where Is The Redwood Forest?
The Rotorua Redwoods are located on Long Mile Rd (see map below) You will see why it's called the Redwoods when you get here. Hard to believe but it's only minutes away from the city center. About half-way down Long Mile Rd there is a carpark on the left. This is where you will find the Redwoods Gift Shop & Visitor Center (info center) and, most important, toilets. This point is where all six of the marked walking/running tracks leave from.

KUIRAU PARK
GOVERNMENT GARDENS
The Rotorua Night Market is a more high-end type of market selling locally made products. Examples include artisan cheeses and pasta, coffee and wine, alpaca scarves and wraps, olive oils, mussell fritters (yuuummy), plus more.
The surrounding shops stay open which adds to the ambience of the evening. You can spend a lovely hour or two just browsing and enjoying the atmosphere at this market.
Or, pop into Hennessey's for a beer or wine if it's hot and you need a breather.

Hours - 5pm - 9.30pm
Where - On Tutanekai St (actually on the street as it gets closed off) between Pukuatua and Haupapa Sts. Also check it out on the google map below.
